When I was 17 I opened a checking and savings account with Bank of America (I had a off the books, part time job and needed somewhere to deposit my paychecks).

When I turned 18, I went the day after to try to apply for a credit card at the same Bank of America location I opened my checking and savings account. I was approved for a $900.00 credit line with only my ITIN.

Unfortunately, the business where I had my job closed down unexpectedly and I had a nice fat balance on my credit card (I was suppose to pay it off with my next 3 paychecks). Fast forward to today and I fucked up my credit really badly.

Luckily, thanks to DACA I have a stable part-time job now (on the books and retail) and with my next check I will be paying 3/4th of the balance. Hopefully I can begin rebuilding my credit since now I can get stable jobs!!

Moral of Study: Try to open a credit card with the financial institution you already have, favorable in the location itself. After you are approved, be VERY careful because having a good credit can be VERY handy in the future! Good luck!

What I did was I applied for something called savings secured loan or something like that at my local credit union.
Basically I put about $500 in savings account and the bank takes that as a collateral to give me a loan.
They told me if I pay back that loan in a timely manner, my credit will build up within 6 months or so.
So I recommend that you call your local credit union as well and tell them that you are just now building your credit and ask what are some options they can provide for you.
