Anyone one here plays the lottery? My husband buys that stuff every now and then. I was thinking how nice it would be if a a DACA approved person hits the powerball especially how big the jackpot is.

I think only legal residents and citizens can claim the big prizes.

AFAIK anybody can claim the prize, it's just that if you don't have SSN they're gonna withhold a larger percentage of it for tax purposes. If the government withhold 30% instead of 25%, you're still left with a sizable win.

I work part time at a liquor store. We have a lottery machine. I remember how crazy that day was when the biggest jackpot in the history of lottery was to be drawn..mega millions. People go crazy for that stuff. I think its okay to play once in a while but don't get used to it. I see young people..18 years old come and buy lottery tickets. Its a very shameful habit. It ruins peoples lives. Just be responsible and have fun...I'm more of a roulette type of guy. Love that shit.

Lottery or any other gambling addiction is bad. Having said that, for $425 million Powerball jackpot I'll yield and buy several tickets.

Yes, I'm going to have to get a ticket myself...but the interesting part starts when one of us (undocumented person) wins the prize. How would that person claim this prize? From what I've heard, they do extreme financial background checks. They strip away every penny you owe to the government especially if you've been claiming benefits. I've also heard one ridiculous claim..If a foreigner wins the prize, he/she is offered immediate legal residency in the United States due to tax implications. I'm really not sure how much truth is in that claim but very interesting indeed. Also, once you win the ticket and sign the back, nobody can claim that prize but you. If you win and I get a hold of your ticket and sign it, its mine.

I work at a liquor store as well. You will be amazed at the idiots that would rather spend their last dollar on a scratcher and later be begging for money because they don't have any to eat. They come back short of money to buy a snack and expect me to let them slide. I just tell them to get the fu@& out of the store.

They just love those scratches. They spend 100 or 200 bucks at a sitting. Its a shame that these people even offer their food stamps money for half of their value to buy lottery.
