My Paper license was issued 11/01/12 and expired on 01/31/13.

I went to the Fontana, CA dmv

I have a question, I applied for both ID and driver's license on 11/13 I was wondering do they use the same picture for both the ID and license?

just confirmed with jrios2641..his license also said "interim" and he got the full 5 years.
I went to the same DMV as him, so hopefully my result is the same =D

So, just to make sure: when applying for DL in CA for the first time, DMV doesn't ask for any proof of residency, except for a CA address on the DL-44 form? Correct?

they ask to see your EAD..your SSN and that's about it.
You just need an address in CA they can ship to.
