To talk about immigration especially when you are young in the family. Personally, I won't have been in this situation (undocumented) if i knew more about the immigration system when i was in high school to prevent a large mistake. Otherwise, its great to know that Africa is being represented and I know there is more lurking!!

Sweet, if this true I got to reap the benefits of something that wasn't mainly meant for me. AND, with a shorter timeline than some of those it was intended for.

Anywhooo.

I guess I can see how it can be viewed as taboo in the African community in the sense that it can be used against you and there is a certain amount of embarrassment,bitterness and even shame associated with the topic. I have heard immigration status used as a insult towards someone and even within family members its a touchy subject.

Wow that sucks. I had no idea. For us Hispanics we don't care who knows our status. Maybe not the dreamers here but boy do I hear crossing stories every time I go to Hispanics stores
