That's awesome I didn't know that. Well you could go with either BOA or Chase.

Also I know the other banks you mentioned including BOA and Chase have student accounts apparently it's better to get those. Sorry can't help more I don't have a bank account atm and when I do I'll probably be going with a credit union, chase or bbva compass (although it's a bit far from where i live.... :/)

Can someone please tell me who to apply to to get a regular student credit card? I applied to citi but they say I need a permanent address in the US. Be use I clicked no when they asked if I was a permanent resident it citizen. Ughhhh. This sucks.

I've always wondered about ING direct... I think I'm gonna open an account with them if they take me. Anyone ever heard about that bank and their requirements? And their service, etc?

I've opened up a few accounts since I received my SSN, and they all handle the verification a little differently. When I applied online at ING, I got to the final step and was given a reference number and was told to call them. Apparently they needed to verify my information (SSN was probably not in the system yet). So the lady from ING just asked me questions about where I lived, what my birthday was, who else lived with me.

Easy as that. You deposit $50 through another checking account. No minimum balance, and I think ING gives you $100 after your first three purchases with you debit card.

No other requirements and customer service seemed very polite.

You're probably going to have to go in person for that and you might experience minor annoyances even with just opening an account because since we have no status and they make you fill out Form w9 sometimes several times.

It depends where you live. I live in NYC and I opened an account with Chase because they're literally everywhere.
