Yes, you heard it right..2012. This isn't really news but let it be in this section Mods. For those who haven't signed up for e-mails from the Dream Activist leaders, here's one from Mohammad Abdollahi, a very influential Dream leader.

Quote:
Hi Dreamer

We didn't think we'd have another chance to pass the DREAM Act this year but it turns out we do. Last month the STEM bill passed in the house; 245 votes to 139. Stem is an immigration bill that would grant green cards for up to 55,000 foreign-born, US-trained graduates every year. The bill is now up for a vote in the Senate, if we attach the DREAM Act to it we could potentially get the DREAM Act this year.

When DACA was announced we were all very excited but the reality is that DACA is just temporary. Earlier this week Rodrigo Murcia, a dreamer from Texas, was told by an immigration judge that he'd need to deport from the United States by December 3rd. We managed to get a hold of Rodrigo and help stop his deportation but what about the others who we don't find out about? DACA is good but wouldn't you rather have a permanent fix that comes with a greencard?

In order to get DREAM attached we need Senator Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, and Senator Durbin, the author of the DREAM Act to push to attach it. Please join us in making a call to these two great leaders and asking them to take a final stand for the DREAM Act!

Call Senator Reid @ 202-224-3542
Call Senator Durbin @ 202-224-2152

Sample Script: "Hi, I was calling to ask that the Senator attach the DREAM Act to the Stem bill and put it up for a vote. We've been waiting over 10-years for DREAM to pass and need a permanent fix. Now is our chance. Thanks."

After you call please help us spread the word. Sign the petition and spread the graphic to your friends. Let's end 2012 real strong so that all of these politicians know they can't mess with our communities any more!

Mohammad Abdollahi

Not to be a debbie downer but nothing is going to happen with this. They will wait and try for a comprehensive bill next year instead.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. We are literally less than a month away from closing this year out but maybe this can be used as a launching pad for the compromises.

At best we would just push really hard to get STEM passed (which I believe doesn't include us). As any attempt at Dream Act would likely get filibustered, again...

Honestly I just don't see Reid letting this bill pass. I'm not against it or anything but politics will be played here by Democrats. They're probably thinking, if Republicans can play politics with DA why should we let this bill supported by Republicans pass?

Democrats aren't going to let this pass because it kills the Diversity Visa program.

If they were serious about DA passing there would be no amendment votes, large bills like the 2010 appropriation bills would be written to already include Dream Act and republicans would be the ones needing 60 votes to amend it out, hell if they were really serious everything from flags to orphans, to genocide authorization bills would have Dream Act in them. Best they could do now is to push for a STEM-DA hybrid bill (not STEM with DA attached to it, but an act introduced with STEM and DA already in it), and have that one end up in a reconciliation committee. If anything half decent were to come out then put it up for a vote, if not then let it rot on the shelf.

I'm pretty sure if this had a chance, Durbin would've announced something since the DA is pretty much his baby. Let's not waste our energy and political capital yet when there seemingly is a bipartisan support for a much more broader and comprehensive approach to dealing with immigration.

EDIT: Also, let's wait until Harry gets filibuster reform done first.
