You need to file taxes for every year you worked (even if you worked at a job for less than a year). You will still have file taxes even if you're self-employed. There's more info on the IRS website (irs.gov).

And Yes, It is recommended that you have someway to prove presence in the US (bank statements/tax returns/credit receipts/etc.) for reference.-

**Note: Even those who are living in the US without legal status must file taxes under an ITIN (Individual Tax Identifying Number)**

You have to file taxes even if you are self employed but I think that it really helps if you have receipts for costs and proff of income. If you want to wait it out until you get a job with an actual paycheck you can defer on paying your taxes for up to 3 years at which point you will have to pay all 3 years collectively.

Hmmm

there are tax brackets to look at

10% on taxable income from $0 to $8,700, plus
15% on taxable income over $8,700 to $35,350, plus
25% on taxable income over $35,350 to $85,650, plus
28% on taxable income over $85,650 to $178,650, plus
33% on taxable income over $178,650 to $388,350, plus
35% on taxable income over $388,350.

so if you make 0% then you pay 10% of that!!!

so nothing

You can start to file mid January, everyone pays taxes but it all depends on what you put on the return if you're going to owe them anything. Usually if you are self employed you will end up owing them money especially if you have no reasonable business expenses. I suggets you visit the IRS website and see if you have to file because if you make under a certain amount you're not obligated to.

That 35% is a killer. But thats why you have to do gifts and other non taxables. Swerve.

That is not true for all cases. Some people make less than that and still end up owing.

By the way everyone the right word to say is owing not paying because we all pay taxes.

There's negotiations going on right now to change that 35% the republicans want it to stay 35 the democrats want it to become 39% which is a little ridiculous and won't help much with the nations deficit
