I am finishing up my last semester in the business transfer program at a community college and ready to transfer to a 4 year school in January. However, I am SOOO undecided about what to major in.. I guess the top 2 choices going through my head are accounting or finance. But I am just worried about going to not-so-great schools for this type of thing. How important would you guys say the school you attend is? And how good do you feel about majoring in Accounting? What do you like/dislike?

Thanks in advance!

At my college, both accounting 101 and 102 consisted of a huge online portion. A lot of the work was done using softwares, so even though I had class on campus, a lot of it was done on the computer. If your school is similar then an online class wouldn't be too bad.

Yeah the University I plan to transfer to told me I could take ACC 101 ACC102 and business law and the credits can also transfer to their school so that I can also save money. Just got my Associates in general Science so I'm like so new to accounting, I will take your word and take it online. Not sure if I should start with Accounting 101 or if I should also take Business Law course at same time.

I think AACSB general accreditation is just fine. Doesn't necessarily mean those programs without this accreditation are bad but I would highly recommend attending a college/university that has an AACSB accredited business school. Its totally up to you, the student to be honest with you. If you're undecided between the two, you should go with Accounting. It provides more concrete pathways in terms of career. To your last question, I feel absolutely AMAZING about majoring in Accounting. Personally, I really like how each facet of accounting is fully interrelated and you can have a separate career in each of them. Management/cost accounting is the process inside a company. Financial Accounting is what you see when public companies release their statements. Auditing is the practice that certified these statements and Taxation is self-explanatory. Another thing I like..let me tell you is that you learn accounting in a hierarchy. You will NOT forget what you learned as you study accounting if you actually paid attention and learned it. You might forget a lot but one study session and it will come to life. Dislikes...I wouldn't really use the word dislikes but I'd say it can get slightly boring but other than that..not much. Good luck!

How hard is that test that you have failed twice? Scaring me now... I have scored 90-100 in all my exams for Accounting so far. I am just getting started but I feel confident in my choice.

I'm nowhere near close to sit for the exam but from what I've heard from other accounting graduates they say that you have to study your butt off and that it is not fun!!!!!! lol So I'm guessing it's hard and takes time to study for it and be ready.

I still don't understand. Do they ask different types of questions than the textbooks/professors? If we do well in the course as well as with the material, shouldn't we perform at the same level with the test?
