From approval until EAD expires we are here lawfully (we have lawful presence). We are authorized to live and work in the U.S. during that period.
What DACA doesn't grant is "full legal status": which would be legal permanent residency (LPR/Green Card) or Citizenship (USC).
So we're not illegal. We just don't have full legal status. We have lawful presence, whereas someone who is "illegal" doesn't.
