I went to a tier 1 public university in Texas, got everything paid for cuz I graduated Valedictorian of my HS class...I got two bachelor degrees and then I pursued a masters in public health...I am now interviewing for medical school....

I did NOT apply as an international because the Texas med school app system classified me as "Texas Resident". I obviously need my DACA approved by next summer so I can apply to the FAFSA..and matriculate in med skewl if accepted. NOTE: i only applied to TX schools

For those of you who are SERIOUSLY considering a career in health or public health, it is VERY possible...I am ONE degree away (MD) to finally become the public health professional I aspire to be...and Ive done it all as a Dreamer with the grace and many blessings from the Lord OUR savior!!!!

If you have any questions, inbox me...
Congrats on your success and i wish you the best this cycle.

I will say that your post is some what misleading. First, you would not be eligible for federal financial aid, did you mean you were going to file a "TAFSA"? This grants you access to state financial aid. I will say that you are very fortunate to live in texas. However i think its quite misleading to say that a career in health care, medicine at that is "very possible"...its only remotely possible in texas. There is a benefit in you applying to texas schools only, you are exempt from the AMCAS filing system, because texas uses a separate filing system, TMDSAS if i remember correctly. Being a texas resident is affording you these opportunities, which unfortunately is a luxury the rest of us non-texans cannot share.

I think everyone who is dedicated should not give up, after all this country needs you. But to call it a bumpy road (until CIR passes) would be a big understatement in my opinion.

100% agree. bumpy doesn't even begin to explain the road ahead.

Difficult but not impossible.
Who would have expected DACA to happen overnight? Anything can happen.

I'm assuming Dental schools function similarly to medical schools in that they really wont extend an acceptance unless they know for sure that you can 1) matriculate and 2) finance your education and 3) gain entry to a residency (for medical students), which requires an SSN to be able to work.....
perhaps my situation is different than y'alls (it is)....but at UTHSCSA, once I got accepted into the program (again...not full on Medical School) I talked to my program directors and told them that I was here illegally and that I didnt want to take anyones spot if I couldnt receive the federal money to pay for school etc... (my program is completely paid for and this was about 2 years ago).

they worked with me...did some sorcery and were able to pay for my first year (and would continue to pay...but i informed them that i now have a SSN). I applied without a SSN and since I havent updated my school records yet, I have been attending without a SSN...there was a lot of things i had to do (affidavits, talking to people...then there was the whole school ID thing --they wouldnt let me get one since i didnt have a TX ID card only my mexican consulate ID..ugh.) anywho...it is possible to be accepted and go to school...the problem might be the money

i have been very fortunate that i have been able to get to where i am...you just have to put yourself out there.

good luck!
