Anybody working at Investment Bank with DACA EAD?

or applying for Summer Analyst internship position?

I would like to know if there were any roadblock due to our situation.

Thanks.

Yeah there is a big one. Our EAD cards have 2 years, employers can legally and lawfully denied us due to the fact that there is uncertainty they can't base on DACA and they are not allow to ask you about your status either.

Yes, albeit a small boutique. IBs will higher you without issue if you're qualified. The only problem is that a very VERY slim majority of us went to a target. And those of us that did probably skipped out on the recruiting process since we couldn't work.

My best advice to you since superday and the recruiting process has come and gone is to network. Network your balls off. Get a reallllly nice resume and attend one of the recruiting events when they happen (if you live near a target school).

Let's say Columbia University is holding a recruiting event. Me, being from another school, can just walk into Columbia University recruiting event?

1. How will I bypass Columbia University security clearance ?

2. Will I catch negative (embarassing?) attention from the recruiters even if I can go in (that makes me look like a tool) ?

If you graduated from a 4 year, join the alumni group they usually have recruiting events for alumnis and those type of things join their mailing list they will e-mail you upcoming events and that type of stuff to help you get situated

If it's a closed session like that, then it might be a problem. IBs have information sessions set up on campuses all the time. These are usually open to everyone and is a GREAT way to network.

Problem with these is that too many people go to them. This is not to say that you shouldn’t go to any sessions. It’s just that you shouldn’t focus on them – and you need to spend most of your time networking outside the sessions, even if those efforts start with contacts you made at the sessions. Anything you do that others don’t automatically gives you an advantage. It’s not common for students to attend information sessions at other schools – so you can stand out quite a bit by doing so.

If the session is focused exclusively on alumni, you may draw some negative reactions – but if it’s big enough, you can usually find at least a few bankers who are receptive to your cause.

I started writing my resume to the BO internship positions but then I got greedy..

I want FO - sales & trading, M&A, risk but IB recruiters only come for BO positions at my school..

Best chance that I got is probably..
BO at IB -> MBA at target -> FO

Do you see any of our situation that interferes while working at FO? (i.e. business trip to London while working at BarCap - since we can't leave US)

It'll be tough to go from BO to S&T, especially at a BB. It's definitely doable at a MM or a boutique. If you want S&T, I suggest getting a math heavy degree...like an MSF or something. S&T, M&A and risk are vastly different in terms of scope so at this stage, I would focus on establishing your self in one of those fields and learning literally everything you can about it.

S&T, know Bloomberg in and out. If your into equities, a typical question at an interview is "sell me on a stock". So, pick a stock and know the ins and outs of it. Know the CEO's dog's name if you have a chance. Credit, know what country stands where. Know why Bund yields are falling, what inflation will do to new Gilt issues, and what will happen to French banks if OATs start selling off.

For M&A, WSJ or NYT deal books will be your bible.

That might be an issue if you were part of a big deal, but as an analyst or something entry level, you probably won't be doing a lot of travel.
