Anyone here an Art major? media/digiral arts? graphic/ web design? Animation?

I plan on starting from scratch. Since, i am more flexible with my schedule i plan on going back to school. I have a passion for art and i thought i make a career out of it.

I'm a liberal arts major... Most probably laugh at me. But seriously, designing, best thing ever.

I would have tried art school if I had any talent, but since I barely do, I decided against it (plus I don't have a trust fund lol).

You do what you want sir/ma'am, but take it all the way... And always remember, be flexible and dynamic. It's the only way you'll actually earn a living these days.

I have no problem with people pursuing their passion. I actually encourage people to do what they love.

The problem occurs, however, when they start complaining about how little that they make.

If $25k per year seems too little, then they are not ready to pursue their passion. What they're offering to the society is worth $25k per year so if they're not ready for that, they should look for something else.

Well, it's true that society doesn't value art as much as they should, but I think anyone would be a fool not to know that this is a reality. I know many art majors and they know it well, they work in other areas to earn a living but their passion is art, so they still persue it. But you are right, anyone entering the art world should be aware that the chances of being well paid are minimal.

But then again, it's just like any other job.

well that is true in most cases. Art majors doesn't really rake up much when it comes to annual salary. But i think it really depends on what Art major you're taking and the city that you are residing. Graphic and Web design makes a median of $78,000 in San Francisco (my city).

http://www.indeed.com/salary?q1=Grap...rancisco%2C+CA

and Animation/Digital Artists makes about $60k to $70k.. Also in San francisco

The best thing about living in this part of California is that im surrounded by big companies like Google, Yahoo, Apple, Facebook, AT&T etc. Which up my chances of getting a job in this field. Ive looked at Google and Apple's site and theyre always hiring for new Graphic and Web designers.
