Hi dreamers, I'm very confused about this whole california dream act thing.

My question is about getting financial aid from fafsa, is it true that we will be able to apply without an SSN on January of 2013?

I'm really confused about this.

I'm trying to get as much financial aid as possible for college, I've already applied and qualified for the BOG which paid for my tuition for next semester. Now I just want to get some money for books.

The California Dream Act of 2011, authored by Assembly Member Gil Cedillo (Los Angeles), became law through the passage of two Assembly Bills, AB 130 and AB 131.

AB 130 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria (California Education Code 68130.5(a)) to apply for and receive non-state funded scholarships for public colleges and universities.

AB 131 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria to apply for and receive state-funded financial aid such as institutional grants, community college fee waivers, Cal Grant and Chafee Grant.

Q I am currently in college. I am AB 540. What kind of aid can I receive?
A You may be eligible for
•NOW: AB 540 In-State Tuition Assistance
•NOW: AB 130 private scholarships (see your intended college or university for applications
and deadlines)
•JAN 1, 2013: Institutional grants like the UC “University Grant”, the CSU “State University
Grant”, the CSU Extended Opportunity Program (EOP) or the California Community College
Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) (see your intended college or university
for applications and deadlines)
•JAN 1, 2013: California Community Colleges Board of Governor’s fee waiver (BOG fee
waiver) (see your local community college for application)
•Fall Term 2013: If you are attending a California Community College and plan to transfer to a
4-year institution in the fall of 2013 or later, you may qualify for a Community College Transfer
Entitlement Cal Grant (Apply JAN-MAR 2013)
•Fall Term 2013: If you are enrolled or expect to enroll in a career technical program at your
college, you may qualify for a Cal Grant C (Apply JAN-MAR 2013

For more info read http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/gr...m_act_faqs.pdf

I hope this helps. So in other words no. you can NOT apply for FAFSA.

The FAFSA has been discussed lots and lots of time here, Unless your school REQUIRES that you fill one in and that you are certain they will NOT submit it to the goverment, you should NOT fill one and submit one. You CAN apply but it doesn't mean you are going TO get anything. Since DACA doesn't get us ANY federal benefits

Also one more question about the BOG, you say I'd be elegible starting on January 2013 (if I qualify). But I applied online in november this year, and I had my fees waived when I registered at the beginning of december. Is that normal or should I be worried?

Oh alright, do you think I should apply again on January or just leave it like that? I'm scared they might "reclaim" the waiver or something, because I got my classes waived before January. I'm also hoping I qualify for some of that financial aid from the EOPS, those books are gonna cost me like 600 hundred the first term.

If they reclaim that money then we are both screwed.. But no the financial aid office told me it was fine. You should qualify for the EOPS I qualified for it.
