I went to the one in Bloomingdale , because that's the office that came up when I typed in my zip code. ( I live in Schaumburg, IL which is a northwest suburb of Chicago).

You know the more I think about it the more upset I get. There were so many young people waiting with their parents and most of us waited almost 3 hrs... I'm sure they were told the same thing by this lady that they needed their tax returns. I called the 1800 # and they never mentioned tax returns as a form of required evidence.

I think this particular office just want to make it harder for DACA applicants to get their SS #. I'm going to try to the elgin office and see how it goes.

Either way I am writing a letter of complaint because it is absolutely unacceptable for them to make you wait 3hrs and then make up stuff on the spot of "needed evidence."

yeah they are on some BS. go to another one. Even the offical SSA DACA flyer does not mention bringing tax returns www.ssa.gov/pubs/deferred_action.pdf

print that flyer out to avoid problems.

UPDATE!!!!!! UPDATE!!!

I applied for my number about 5/6 weeks ago. I was living in NJ and Moved to Oregon two weeks later. I waited to see if my Father In law would recive my card in the mail but he never did. Today I went to the Oregon City S.S Office and they were great. They gave me my s.s # and I changed my address since I couldnt change it via phone. My card was probably mailed to NJ and no one picked it up and got sent back and got destroyed. I applied for a new card today and it should be mailed at my new address in 7 bussiness days. I am so happy now!! Now I need my Oregon I.D and take my written drivers test.

I applied for my SSN today. They told me I'd have to come back for the printout with my number on it on Wednesday. They were pissed they had to work today since it was New Year's Eve (their words, not mine) and they had no idea what DACA was. So, it was great. /sarcasm
