FLORIDA DL (SAME DAY) Class E

Ok so I was confused before when it came to the process of getting my DL here in Florida.. I've read in previous threads that some people said they were just taking their written exam and getting just their Driver's Permit or a paper and had to wait 30 days (most cases 2 weeks) until they received their DL if they passed the driving test.. Even if they were 18 and older.

Well I am a first time driver, 21 and I today I took my written tests/vision/driving test and I left this wonderful DL office WITH my Class E license! My guess is that I was verified right away, and didn't have to wait until they mail me my DL.. It did take the lady a few tries to verify my info though, (maybe because EAD and social are just too new). I was beyond amazed because I didn't even think I could take the driving test the same day because of the feedback that I had read on some threads.. I just came on here because I wanted to recommend the DL office that I went to. Such nice people, driving instructors were surprisingly very friendly, driving test is EXTREMELY easy and most importantly VERY EFFICIENT office. (no comparison to the Vermont service center) So if there's any dreamer out there that lives in South FL and still needs to get their DL, I recommend you to go to this one:

Also, I didn't even make an appointment, but I do recommend you to go early. They are open from 8am-5pm I believe. I went at 8:10am got out at 10:45am with my Driver's license Class E in my hand. The only things I took was my EAD card, SSN card, passport, most recent bank statement and my certificate of completion of the Drugs & Alcohol online class that's mandatory. And of course, insurance and registration. Your car HAS to be in good and safe conditions to be able to take the driving test..

A lot of place will let you do all that on the same day. It's just a matter on how busy they are. I went on a saturday and got my class c (georgia) and my motorcycle permit. Took about an hr and half.

Apparently. I guess it does depend what DL office you go to. My confusion was mainly because last week I read on a few Florida DL threads here that some people had to wait for it to be mailed to them (including a 30 day wait limit) instead of getting their DL right away.. But like I said, the lady that processed my DL had a few problems at first verifying my information. But when she tried it the third time she said it went through, and I could get my DL right away. Still this DL office in Pompano Beach was very efficient. Didn't think it was going to be that easy to get my DL

In Georgia they give you a printout of your license, then they send you the permanent copy.

aah i know EXACTLY where that is. close by my house. i will be going there once i get my stuff approved!

i looked at available appointments online yesterday for a few different places in broward county and none of them had anything available until end up Jan. I didn't end up calling yesterday, but today I called and got a freakin' appointment next week at the pompano one! all the other ones didn't have anything until end of jan or even feb. lets just hope that my EAD comes in the mail before then lol. I got a text update today that it was mailed.
I'll update here if they also give me my DL right away, but I have a feeling you got lucky.

Ok question.

Is your first license the permit or the real deal? your thread confuses because you say your got the Class E and I'm assuming it is not the learners permit.... am i right?

Hope you get your EAD soon! Yeah I feel like I got lucky as well.. She tried 3 times to verify my info so I could get my DL right away and won't have to wait until they mail it to me. But hey I'll take that any day.. Good luck to you!


I've never had a permit or license before.. When I went to this DL office to apply for my DL I thought that I could only take the written test first and get a learners permit or paper saying that I had to wait until they mail it to me (because that's the feedback that I saw on previous threads on here ).. But actually I was able to take everything the same day (written/driving tests) and got my Class E driver's license which is the full License. Not a permit, and I was able to get it right away same day. I am 21 btw, if your 18 or younger I don't know for sure if it would be the full License or Permit.

Just confirming that I went to the Pompano Bch DMV today and BAM walked out with my DL! I'm not sure what's going on bcuz some FL friends received the print out instead...
They were nice, fast and didn't seem to be super busy.
Also, I thought I was supposed to get charged for an expired DL fee, but they didn't charge me for that!
One more thing, in case anyone is still wondering, my DL was expired for over 3 years and I did not have to re-take any tests.
