Sorry to interrupt all the DACA posts (you lucky SOB's who were under 30)
I was hanging out with an old friend last night that I trusted and finally decided to let her in on my secret. She's a USC but from my culture and it was a nice to get that off my chest. It's good to not be ashamed and have my close friends know me and my struggles....so far, this makes 10 people....and you guys.

I think the more of us "come out of the closet" regarding our status, the more support will be built for the Dream Act and CIR. My friend had no idea what the Dream Act was. It will put a human face to the cause.

Glad to here you're doing fine! Hang in there. CIR is coming this year and this time everyone will be included including you and DA User. Current DACA beneficiaries will fight hard for CIR because now their families lives depend on it.

I hope you're right lol would be amazing if they pass it this year, seems like something always pops up and postpones CIR

Great job! Never easy to first talk about our status. Alot of the people I hang out with know about my status so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

I never had any problems telling any of my friends. I just say it. I never knew people actually struggled talking about it. Happy for you!

Well, it took me many years to just come out with it.

The first few years I was in middle school in the 80's in the midwest. People knew I was not from there, and we had a parole card and waiting for our court case (which failed)...

In HS, in the late 80's and early 90's, mostly in the midwest, a few personal friends of mine kind of knew I had issues - I didn't get a driver's license like they did for one but I hadn't come out officially to tell them how f#cked I was.

There WAS one incident though where in my Junior year of HS in 1992, this white guy know it all kept prodding and prodding away and just yelled out "so you're here illegally??" I of course downplayed it saying no, i'm waiting for my mother's brother blahblahlbah and the cold hearted bastard told me "You know they're going to catch you if you try to go to college right?"

That SOB then called our physics teacher over and was all telling him "you know XXXX doesn't have papers? semi joking but not funny to me " and to his credit the teacher told the kid to basically STFU and as long as I'm doing well in physics he doesn't care about anything else...That douche bag was a senior getting ready to graduate and was taking the same class I was so I think the teacher made his point.

So that stuck with me to never trust anybody. And I didn't go to college for another 3 years after graduating and moving to Texas. I made new friends here and didn't tell a single one.

First person I told was my GF at the time and it was eventually what killed the relationship....
I also had two very close friends who couldn't understand why I was so upset over her aside from the normal relationship breakup stuff and one was always talking shit to me about why I work at nights in shitty jobs instead of using my degree so I decided to tell them both the whole story and to my surprise, they were very supportive and protective of me.

A few years later I told a couple of other friends and a couple of people I dated (which also scared them away). One time however on a first date to a Canadian girl I accidentally gave away too much info and she figured it out on her own. That was scary because it brought back memories of the kid from HS. She won't rat me out but now that she's married to a conservative, she's a conservative too and a complete right winger.

So I guess the lesson is, be careful who you tell but if you really trust someone and they're your friend, no reason for them not to know...if you have DACA then nobody can touch you anyway.

I'm going tell everyone I'm still illegal, and if they don't like it? fuck them.

Yayy! so happy for you, Iam... check out my documentary - it reeally explains our the dreamer story from start to now... I can come out for you in the film, just share it, hopefully it makes you feel better about "coming out." You have nothing to be ashamed about for being undocumented. Here's the link
