At the DMV, like a license but without the license part, lol.

Technically they were supposed to recognize that as an ID. It is government- issued and obviously has your picture on it.

Now this got me thinking and my question is: I have a trip coming up in the first week of Feb. Just in case my SSN doesn't come in time for me to go get a state id would I be able to board plane with my EAD?

Also when I go to get my ID do I get it one time or do they mail it?

NY has a 6 point system for name, and requirement of date of birth (which only valid immigration documents satisfy), and requirement for proof of social security number. There is no testing or vision requirements* to get an ID, there are however if you are trying to get a driving permit.

Basically bring your:
Filled out form MV-44
EAD - 3 points, and proof of date of birth
Social Security Card - 2 points, and proof of SSN
Then you just need 1 point:
Debit/credit card - 1 point
Bank statement - 1 point
Utility bill - 1 point
HS diploma / GED - 1 point
HS ID with Report Card - 2 points
College ID with transcript - 2 points

* - Vision Test can be taken at the DMV, or at a doctor's office, the doctor has to fill out form MV-619

Written test has to be taken at the DMV unless you have a form MV-285 certification, only way to get that certification is to take a driving ED class in HS or college. Certificate is valid for 2 years.

All you need is the EAD and a second identity document like a foreign passport or birth certificate.
