we will not be eligible for federal student aid. You might qualify for state financial aid. When i went to college i had to fill out the paper form and present a signed affidavit saying i resided in texas. I received Texas Grant which was around 5,00 per year. I also received and academic and a soccer scholarship. Dont get confused though, none of that is considered federal money. So it depends on your state and your college. You might qualify for institutional scholarships.

No, you wont qualify for fafsa if the rules say you must be a USC or LPR.....

Just because someone works in a doctors office, doesnt mean they know whats wrong with you does it?

I would never ask for a loan anyways, even if i qualify. If i will go in debt at any point, it will be for a car. I can pay for school as i work.

Some states provide state aid to undocumented students. Texas has the form TAFSA which is the state version of FAFSA. Check if your state is one of those states, it might be.

We don't I already checked with them. Only Citizens, permanent residents, asylees, and refugees qualify for TAP. TAP pretty much uses FAFSA requirements, you qualify for FAFSA you qualify for TAP, you don't qualify for FAFSA you don't qualify for TAP.

it says : Other eligible noncitizen with an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from the Department of Homeland Security showing any one of the following designations: "Refugee," "Asylum Granted," "Indefinite Parole," "Humanitarian Parole," or "Cuban-Haitian Entrant"

isn't deferred action considered as humanitarian parole???
No. Humanitarian parole is something completely different relating to being let into the US without a visa. Examples of humanitarian parole would be letting in victims of a natural disaster abroad to US, or letting a sick mother of a permanent resident into US so her child can take care of her.

Deferred action is deferred action. It is NOT:
  • A visa
  • Temporary Protected Status
  • Parole

You are legally present in US with Deferred Action under 8 CFR 1.3 (a)(4)(vi) . However you do not hold any sort of an actual legal status.

If the question is:
Are you in US legally?
The answer is yes.
Do you hold a lawful / legal US status?
The answer is no.

We are NOT legal we are LAWFUL. We are lawfully allowed to remained here illegally for 2 years. ( 2 more after that if you quality at the time )

Guys please stop get deluding and believing everything people say. Some schools require you to fill the applications mostly for qualification purposes but not for any federal aid reasons.

Next we are going to have people posting how we are eligible to join the military because their friends told them

DACA is new still and it won't be for another months for the whole country to catch up with it.

This is very true. I applied for a Grad School program (wayyy before DACA) that used federal money to pay for tuition and the stipend. I was accepted, but before I signed saying I did want to be in the program I spoke to the program director. I told him point blank that I was here illegally and that if I couldn't receive the scholarship/money I didn't want to take anyones spot in the program (they only had 12 openings).

He thanked me for telling him and said that they could probably cover at least 50% of the tuition. By the time I started they were able to find money (i'm assuming scholarship money they had around that was not attached to the federal grant) and they paid for everything (minus the stipend).

Sometimes you just have to be honest and people will help.

Interesting thread.
I know Texas has the form TAFSA which is the state version of FAFSA, but does anyone know of anything for Florida?

Cheers!
