I just got approved and received my card in the mail last week. Nowhere does it states anything about a social security card.

I already have one from before. Do I need to go to Social Security Services to get my information updated and get a brand spankin new card?

yeah you need to update that your eligible for work with your ead
also depending on state, you can start getting id/dl with just ur number unless they require your physical ss# card

Depends on what your old card states I think: If it states it is not for work. You have to get a new one that states "authorized to work with dhs authorization." You can try to go to the DMV and use it. Most people I think haven't had a problem using their old ssn.

I had one too but mine had the "not valid for work" on the card. If you had that, you can go and get a new one with the words "authorized to work with DHS authorization". You'll get the same number though.

If you got one that says "Not valid for employment" then you will have to fill out an SS-5 form and bring with your EAD and a second ID (passport, birth certificate, state ID, Driver's license, school ID) to a social security office. They will send you a new card in 1-2 weeks with the same exact number but stamped "Valid for employment only with DHS authorization"

If you have a card that's marked "Valid for employment only with DHS authorization" or "Valid for employment only with INS authorization" you're good to go.

Bumping this so I don't create a new thread. Also have a question about a new SSN. Do you have to schedule to be seen when filing in person, or are SS offices ok with walk-ins?
