DACA does NOT grant ANY Federal Aid. DACA does NOT grant a status but a presence. Shes is eligible for SOME scholarships are long as they are PRIVATE and they are NOT stated funded.

HOWEVER, If she has/will get a California High School Diploma she should apply the California Dream Act!!

AD540

http://ab540.com/WhatIsAb540.html

This is what I think she means and you should look into that.

And about loans, it depend what kind of loan shes is thinking. But you should stick in her head DACA is not a SOLUTION but something to cover a small wound. Shes NOT as eligible as her USC/Legal friends is and she should become aware of her ILLEGAL status. Its okay as many of people here apparently had no idea were illegal until an embarrassing meeting to the DMV. She should understand DACA grants 2 years of lawful presence which is different from status. Most private scholarships out illegal aliens in the bottom and get to legal students first.

She can get loans from banks but I am not sure if they will loan her money for college. Student loans and she will need USC/GC holder to cosign any loans she is planning to take. It does not matter hos intelligent she is but the best she takes advantage of her situation. She should get involved with her school immigration/lationo groups/community group to find out opportunities. There are private scholarships for illegal aliens but the trick is ASK. Always ASK ASK ASK. Tell her to NOT be shy about her status but be confident in everything she does. There is a difference between being naive/arrogant and doing things with out thinking and doing things while understanding your limitations. 16 what is she a junior in high school? She still has sometime to see what happens in the government. there is a lot of talk of a CIR so she should pay attention to that.

This may seem rude, but I advise you to stop doing things for your daughter and tell her to come out of her shell and venture and explore around. You know never know what doors are openings if you are afraid of closing the one behind you.

She should be making an account here and asking us herself instead of you, otherwise you are solving her problems for her.

Best of luck

Hello, no I'm not solving her problems, you know she personally filled all the Daca forms herself, and got approved 2 months after, the reason why I'm here and not her is because this is something I needed to know, which means ME not her, she had always know about her status and the other day told me that she could get a loan that's why I decided to ask, her counselor is telling her she can apply for all of that and she got excited about it, so I decided to get informed before telling her things were not going to be that way, and when I said shy I meant a shy personality not shy to ask and get informed.
thanks for the info

Hi, Fer1818

Well there it is

Ad540 is probably what she and her advisers talked about. Though you should ask her how exactly she's planning on taking loans out. Even with DACA and a decent job I am having problems taking a loan out with out a usc/gc holder cosigner.

Best of luck

ab540 has made it a lot easier for people in california to go to school. also w the california dream act she may now be able to attend a community college w a bog waiver which helps out a lot. she might also be eligible for cal grant and a state university grant, especially if she has good grades.

and srsly pianoswithoutfaith that was rude.

I started at a community college with 100% scholarship, textbooks included. Saved money then transfer to a university in which I also got a scholarship of %75. Today I do not own money to nobody. I went to UNT, I also got approved at UT in Austin and UTD she should move to Texas going to school is so much easier.

NO she should not move to texas because she wouldn't qualify they require 3 years of high school attendance same as California.

If she attend CC at any California CC the BOWG waiver would pay all her fees. The CA dream act pays for part of the fees at any institution UC, Cal State, or CC. She also able for insitutional scholarships or scholarships granted by the colleges. She will have a better chance than many of us that have already graduated.
