social security card question

I just got my Social Security card but it says valid for work only with dhs authorization. What does that suppose to mean? Am I the only one who has gotten this social security card?

"DHS" stands for Department of Homeland Security

That phrase on your SSN card just indicates that you're not a green card holder or citizen. As long as you have your EAD card, it shouldn't cause any problems with working

USCIS is a part of DHS.

We have authorization to legally work in the United States because USCIS, on behalf of DHS, gave us permission to work by giving us an EAD.

Through our EAD, we are able to get an SSN and we can use our Social Security Number for employment.

So as long as our EAD is valid, we have work authorization from DHS. That's why the SSN says "Valid for work only with DHS authorization"
