This is quite an about face for so many hardline Republicans.Issa,Cantor and Coffman whom I thought would never support a path to citizenship seem to be doing just that.Sigh, the obvious problem is that our advocates and sponsors are part of a Coalition now so might not be willing to push it piecemeal in the House.

It will also be very difficult to ascertain who supports Dream act alone in the House due to their changing positions but I suspect the votes may actually be currently in the House of Representatives amongst the GOP and Democrats for Dream act alone!
Quote:
Another Republican member of congress came out in support of a pathway to citizenship for undocumented young people, adding to a drip of GOP lawmakers who are indicating openness to a more narrow reform approach.

Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.) said on Sunday that he is not sure whether he would vote to allow eventual citizenship for the undocumented population as a whole, but would get behind a pathway for young unauthorized immigrants -- often called Dreamers, after the Dream Act -- that entered the United States as children, according to the Denver Post. He said he would be more likely to support legal status without a pathway for undocumented immigrants generally.

"I haven't resolved the question about a pathway to citizenship for [adults] who've overstayed their visa or crossed the border illegally," Coffman said at a forum with Colorado Democrats Sen. Michael Bennet and Rep. Jared Polis, the Denver Post reported.

The issue of a pathway to citizenship for undocumented young people picked up speed last week when House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said he is in favor of such an action. He and Coffman voted against the Dream Act, which would address the issue, in 2010.

"A good place to start is with the kids," Cantor said of immigration reform during a speech at the American Enterprise Institute. "One of the great founding principles of our country was that children would not be punished for the mistakes of their parents. It is time to provide an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who were brought to this country as children and who know no other home."

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said last week that he would be willing to consider it, though he did not endorse the idea.

Reps. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) and Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) plan to introduce a Dream Act later this month to take advantage of others' new support for the bill, but emphasized they will continue to push for more comprehensive immigration reform.

Coffman's switch is particularly significant given his previous hardline views on immigration. He signed onto prior iterations of a bill to stop birthright citizenship to children born in the U.S. with undocumented parents, although he is not a sponsor this year.

This year, he is far more moderate on immigration issues, and introduced a bill to allow young undocumented immigrants to serve in the military, the Associated Press reported.

1) Immediate citizenship for Dreamers

2) Immediate regular, unconditional green card for all other undocumented workers

3) Time to naturalization after earning the green card extended to 20 years for both documented and undocumented workers

4) Re-allocate lottery visas and chain migration visas to immediate relatives of family-based immigration

5) STEM green cards allowed

6) A dedicated authority created to manage the Southwest border of the US including Federal, state, and local officers, whose tasks include fence building and receive donations from all over the country for such purpose

7) An entry-exit system

8 ) E-verify

9) Allowing national guards to help the ICE to secure the border

10) Double the existing number of ICE agents

Republicans are feeling the pressure now that a vast majority of Americans favor CIR with citizenship pathway but they are taking small steps to finally acknowledge it. I believe that every republican in the house knows that a second class immigrants is not the way to solve a broken immigration system.

Americans (UCS) Favor a CIR with a path to citizenship (or so a fox poll told us) but even then they are not willing to go as support it. There was this yahoo poll which asked which task was more important and immigration reform was voted last.

Cut down fuck m$#f-ing time it takes to get a visa for Mexicans and Phillipians. F$#$! first preference category because many people age out and they become "not" an immidiate relavtive to their mom, as in my case. It boggles my mind that US immigration does not consider any son or daughter no matter thier age to NOT be immidiate relatives to their own parents!
Just call them immideate relatives and at least have the balls to say that they have limits on how many of them can immigrate legally to the US BECAUSE of thier age. Just do not say that they are not immediate relatives, kiss my brown ass!

What a rant, as it were.

We're making progress.

I think all of us agree that an eventual path to citizenship should be offered. Most Americans agree that a path to citizenship is the right way to fix the system. hmm?? I still feel we don't have enough votes in the house to get this done. Most Reps feel that a path to citizenship is an extreme such as deporting 11 million people. So.....

If PTC is a deal breaker, would legalizing 11 million people without barring them from citizenship (and not offering it either), would that work for most of us?

If we become citizens we can petition our parents; however, the tricky part would be getting around the 3/10 year ban...

I dunno, having a second class of citizens living in the U.S is unacceptable, but our parents need immediate relief in the midst of racist laws being enacted....

What do you guys think?

Second class citizens will be pretty much like a modern form of slavery
