Leniency in 'Other Topics' - Page 6

As this thread is progressing, some are forgetting that it was about 'Other Topics'. The other parts of the forum are fine.

I know this is a DAP forum, not an entertainment forum, but this suggestion was specifically for that part of the forum.

If you start closing threads in 'Other Topics' for veering off topic, or not talking nicely- I guarantee you will lose half the people there.

If you want you could also have an only 'Other Topics' mod. (mod that can only mod 'Other topics' /redundancy)

Over the top:

1)Racial slurs

2)Posting other people's pics or info.

3)Posting NSFW images.

4)Constantly harrassing a member (this is up to the mod's judgement)

5)Constantly spamming messages

6)Insulting mods/admins.

7)Talking about why a member was banned or which mod banned him.

Not over the top:

1)Veering off topic (This is 'Off Topic', we should be allowed to do that)

2)Here and there name calling (idiot, dumbo, hoodlum), this will happen, happens in the other parts of the forum.

3)Instead of closing threads, the 'Other Topics' mod could give a warning.

If I'm breaking down your sentences correctly:

Because my response was:

"I'm emotionally attached I guess"

"Why else would you become emotionally attached"

It equaled me saying:

"Because it is mine and I have an ego"

So what sid or sk18 or ivycali said is irrelevant?

Yes, I'm emotionally attached because it is mine. But, because it mine I monitored it the best I could. I also kept it going every day. I knew people liked it because waiting for DACA is stressful and it helped us take our mind of it. I was only approved 3 days ago. It helped me keep my mind of it. I couldn't take people complaining about not being approved. It became like a little family. Not backpedaling at all Piano. You of all people Piano should know I'm not that type of girl.

SK18, most things in the over the top category are already covered by our site wide rules.

The section is other topics, the threads each have a topic. If veering off topic didn't matter we'd have one moster thread. You wouldn't like that situation. Having said that, the mods are clearly much more lenient in the other topics section as far as this rule.

And you should report every instance of this happening by clicking the little "flag" icon under the thread. This helps the mods a great deal.

Look at this thread for example. I've just had to issue infractions, because this is just NOT the level of discourse we want anywhere on the site. I don't care how "other topic" something is. And, it won't "just happen" because we always (eventually) ban those people. That's a promise, and is the reason why DAP survived all our trials.

If a person trolls or attacks other people we will cut him/her off from the community, period. These members are never missed. I speak from experience.

This is an idea worth considering. Thank you.

Usually the mods will issue infractions to offending users, that transparently helps to keep the thread sane. Sometimes they do issue a verbal warning in the thread too, but we will consider making that an official part of the process.

Those two threads are too long to go back and delete any offending comment (at least I don't have the time). You both are welcome to start new threads and link to closed thread to refer back to it. There has to be a cap on length of thread anyway.

After getting some sleep and thinking about it I think that Nick and the Mods are absolutely 100%right for closing the threads and banning you know who (he really had it coming). Yes it sucks that those two threads were closed but the purpose of DAP is to come together and push for immigration reform and that should be our priority right now. We could always create another. These are my last 2 cents. Happy day everyone!
