So I got my work authorization card 2 weeks ago but I did not have a ride/availability to go apply for my SS card until today.

It wasnt such a long wait, but maybe because I went right before they closed. I gave the lady my card and my passport and she asked questions like "have you ever visited the US" and I told her I have been living here and she asked "Since when?" and I said "Since '03". Then she asked if I have ever worked before and I said no, then she looked at my card and was like "have you ever had a work authorization before?" and I said "no".

Then after a lot of typing, she said she has to manually confirm my work authorization card with immigration. She photocopied my card and my passport and she gave me this document confirming that I applied for an SS today. I asked her how long I will be getting my SS and she said she had to wait for immigration to respond to her manual confirmation AND THEN they will start processing my SS.

Is this normal procedure for them to have to confirm with immigration? Did she think my work ID is fake, maybe because I look fairly young and I am obviously still in school? I am a little upset since I waited 6 MONTHS for my EAD to arrive and now I might have to wait for a while again for my SS card since she has to MANUALLY confirm it with immigration, and we all know immigration office takes forever on everything. Im not sure by what she meant by MANUALLY... is she gonna mail my stuff or walk to the office herself?

I am so confused... I just want my SS so I can get my license already T_T

oh and I went to the FOUNTAIN VALLEY SS office, there were a lot of white people there and I noticed that its a much fancier office than the one in Lakewood. The security guard there is also 5 times stricter because he checks your bag and he walks you to the screen to get a number and everything... the Lakewood security dude just sits there and minds his own business lol (and I know because I initially went to Lakewood but the line was super long so I had to leave for class)

When I went to the SS office they didn't make copies of my documentation. I just showed my passport and my EAD.

When the guy asked "Have you worked in the US before?" I said "Yes", he didn't give me much crap about it and just kept typing.

Im not in FV, but i went to the one in Mission Viejo. Was really mellow and chill. I filled out my form and waited to get called. When my number came up, i just handed over my application and EAD and matricula. She took it and didn't ask me anything. Sat down for less than 5 mins and went out the door. Week later i got my SS card in the mail.

Mine was fairly simple, Applied for ss# 02/11 In Anaheim, CA Just Showed EAD & Matricular ID in at 9 (opening time) out by 9:20. Went to Anaheim SS office next day to get printout guy was an ass & told me to wait 2 weeks so decided to go to Garden Grove SS office & the security guy kindly said "you're at the right place", Guy asked to see my Matricular ID, EAD, Birth Certificate was in and out in 25 minutes with my ss# print out.

I went to apply for mine, they asked my mom (she came with me since I'm 17) why the last name on her driver's license was different from the one in her SS card (hispanic last names) and I received my card in 10 days. Maybe she was trying to be a bitch to you.

Hmmmm If you guys ever bother to read that DACA SSN how to it mentions you must bring your original whatever as they will make copies of their own

To make the process easier you guys should fill the application at home and just take it

what are you talking about? I brought all original documents with me, she only wanted my passport and EAD ID and I have filled the application earlier. Read my post, she thought my card was fake, basically and wanted to confirm it with immigration

Dude that's weird! Maybe you went too soon after being approved? I've read about some people on here whose info wasn't in yet when they tried to apply ykwim? I went today and it was super fast. She just looked at my EAD & birth certificate. Didn't ask any questions.
