Maybe my case could help some people who are still waiting for their card in the mail. If you are not on the lease of your place, you might want to let them know. Just to prevent this from happening to you.

After calling the toll free number, I had to go back to my original ss office because I didn't get my ss card in the mail within their 2 weeks waiting period. The lady there proceeded to tell me that my card was mailed to me a couple of days after I applied for it, but was sent back due to the fact that my lease is not under my name. She had me fill out ss-5 once again, gave me a print out of my ssn, and I got my card in the mail 3 days later. The label of my mail was:
MY NAME
C/O PERSON ON THE LEASE
MY ADDRESS

Wait, how did they get the name of the person on the lease? This is gravely confusing..

called office, they said: "I can't check with the reference number, you have to have a SSN that I can help you with."

Yes I read your story, I do have a mind to wait a bit longer seeing how average people work in NY.

Fingers cross, hope everything turns alright.

Got my EAD on Saturday and went to the SSA office today, got a rather mean lady that was trying to get through my application done as fast as possible, she told me "they are not able to check if a number is already assigned to me".

My receipt says I should receive my card within two weeks, I've read that I should be able to call or walk-in in the next 2-3 days for a print out?
