Another sign of the challenges facing immigration in Congress: GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham is being slammed by an advocacy group for backing a path to citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants already in the United States.

Numbers USA, a group that supports lower levels of legal and illegal immigration, released a new radio ad Tuesday criticizing Graham for supporting the plan, calling it "amnesty and welfare for millions of illegal aliens." The ad, backed by a six-figure buy, will start running statewide Wednesday in South Carolina on broadcast and cable outlets.

"Who elected Lindsey Graham to demand millions more immigrant workers when so many South Carolinians are jobless?" the ad asks.

Graham, who is up for re-election in 2014, is one of the four Senate Republicans working working four Democrats to pass a comprehensive immigration bill that also includes tighter border safety and improved mechanisms for employers to verify the status of workers. He is the only one in the group who is considered vulnerable in next year's Senate races.

The ad comes as Graham and fellow GOP Sen. John McCain of Arizona, another member of the bipartisan group, head to the White House later Tuesday to discuss immigration and other issues. President Obama reached out to the GOP senators last week.

"The people of South Carolina need to let Sen. Graham know it is misguided to greatly increase the flow of foreign workers while nearly 350,000 South Carolinians can't find a full-time job," said Roy Beck, president of Numbers USA. "With African American and Hispanic American unemployment at Depression levels, the last thing South Carolina needs from Sen. Graham is more foreign workers and a looser labor market."

Immigration is one of those issues that bedevils Congress, especially Republicans who want to project that they are tough on crime. President George W. Bush was unable to push a similar immigration bill through Congress in 2007, in part because of objections from some in the GOP that the measure amounted to amnesty to law breakers. Numbers USA takes credit for scuttling that immigration effort.

Numbers USA grades each member of Congress on immigration and frequently calls on its supporters to contact lawmakers who embrace what they consider amnesty. The group's immigration petition, posted on the website saynotoamnesty.com with a copy of the Graham ad, has more than 170,000 signatures.

Doesn't South Carolina have two US senate elections in 2014? It would be pretty stupid for numbers USA to challenge an incumbent when the GOP has to worry about fighting for another seat. Overall, numberUSA doesn't represent the party, especially when all they have is a low quality ad with only three people (probably paid actors).

Im not sure whether to feel bad about the horrible ad or feel good that numberUSA is wasting their sponsors money with b*****t like this.

The important thing about this video is that it's hilarious, even though it has almost no views.

Let us not forget that he voted against the Dream Act:

If he does not help immigration reform pass this year, he deserves to be replaced.

Don't worry the republicans would have to worry about a lot more than just Graham seat, if immigration doesn't pass this year. Not only would it intervene in their plans to win back the senate on 2014 but it would rift the party to the point they won't be able to win the presidency for the next couple of decades, unless they pull a Ronald Reagan like in 1986.
