my dad and i were rearended on the freeway on ramp while stopped at the meter. our car was a minivan and the guy was driving a commercial truck.. so our minivans whole rear end was smashed lol. a policeman came and asked for my dad's license. he had a license from his home country which was still valid. the policeman asked why he didnt have a california license, and he said that he just arrived, so he is still using his home country's license lol. it was the other guys fault, and all our insurance documents were complete, so the guys' insurance had to pay for everything. it was a non issue that my dad didnt have a california license.

do you have insurance? why is the lady suing you all of a sudden? does the police report say it was your fault?...hmm

My case was dismissed by the judge and only paid for the driving with no DL ticket.

I am DACA approved (this was my second court appearance for driving with NO DL).
Sounds like Markham courthouse at cook county lol. Similar happened to me. I got hit. I did not get a ticket though, she was nice.

I hit somebody from behind 9 years ago. I had just got the car and we where in the process of getting in insured. So I wrecked it without DL and insurance. It was cloudy and the roads were wet so I was charged with Driving too fast for conditions, No DL, no Insurance.

I was taken to jail, then got out after paying a $500 fine total. then later I pleaded guilty on my court appearance because I couldnt fight anything. So I had to pay the other insurance company to fix his Trailer, i didn't even hit his truck, but his trailer, total of $3,000. Messed up.

i got in a car accident in 2010. I was driving down a main street and other car ran a stop sign and rammed right into the front of my car. This happened in january. Her registration and insurance were expired since September of the year before. I only got a fine for driving without a license. I had insurance and everything was up to date on my car and the police report was pretty much in my favor other than the license thing. She ended up paying me out of pocket for the damage to my car. Otherwise we would've ended up in court. I have my license suspended now though because of that accident for 6 months. So when i get approved for daca I have to go to the dmv and pay $36 for the suspension to start running. F M L

We all need to get our DLs ASAP. I was in a fender bender a couple weeks ago (it was my fault) and the guys car ended up with the biggest scratch ever. Front door, back door, part of rear frame. However I was super lucky he was really nice about it and told me to dont even worry about it it can happen to anyone (his car a 2012 accord btw, fancy with leather seats GPS and all) said we should just fix it outside of the insurance. Got a quote and I paid only half of his bill. He felt bad for me cause he said I needed to fix my car, I'm also a girl and almost cried during this..oops. Best guy ever. Fast forward to yesterday where I scratched my car so bad it actually cut the frame, this done with the gate. I want to shoot myself.

"Defensive Driving" pays off. I am sure most of us at some point will want to take the car to the xtreme (speed, etc) or ignore the road environment. Take the class it will help you and if you are a penny pincher it will give u perspective of the consequences: Insurance and how it affects your DL in your particular State.

Actually on both occasions I had court at Cook County at the Daley Center. I am so glad gangmembers were fighting each other before my case because that made me look like my case is not of major concern lol
I was thinking in my head "you see, Chicago gots bigger problems than me driving with no DL lol"

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences, they are of great help. My accident was a train collision. She rear ended someone and I rear ended her. I offered to pay out of pocket and she said no. She said she was going to call her insurance. She tooked a pic of my license plate and we exchanged phone numbers. We did not write a police report, we left before the cops showed up. The next day I received a phone call from a law office, I did not answered I just heard the voicemail. I had my dad call his insurance and deal with it. The insurance has not got back to my dad, so I am not exactly sure why is she suing me for.

don't worry too much.. as long as you have insurance to pay... you won't be in too much trouble... the worst case is to pay fine for no license.
