California FAFSA for Dreamies question

my counselor at my community college told me to sign up for it.. and that it not only does it give you money for school but they also return to you the money you paid for school in past semesters.. has anyone here applied for it yet ? and heard anything from them. or by when do you receive this money.. etc etc

They do NOT return the money you have paid for school from past semesters. You do qualify for the BOG waiver, which means you don't have to pay for your class units, just for your health fee or whatever other fees your school has tacked on.

You get money from the state and/or the institution, not the federal government, meaning that it is not FAFSA.

I already applied for it, and once you submit your online application, the information will be sent to your school, and they decide how much money you are eligible for.

I applied about 1 month ago and still have not heard anything back. Will I receive an email or something in the mail?? Just curious..

You will start hearing back from your school once the deadline has past, which is after March 2nd. You will hear something from the school, not from the Dream Act program.

I only got the BOG waiver, which is more than what I had before.

For community college, you won't get as much as going to a Cal State or UC, because those are more expensive.

I would like to point out that we are still not eligible for FAFSA, since that is FEDERAL money. Remember, FAFSA stands for, "Free Application for FEDERAL Student Aid".

I keep seeing a lot of California users here describing the CA Dream Act as FAFSA, when it clearly is not.
