Applied for LPR

Hey guys my husband and I applied to adjust my status as LPR and we received our receipt last week that our i130 petition had been received. Our lawyer emailed us say the next step was to wait for further communication by USCIS. I know this sounds dumb but we don't really trust the competency of our lawyer and want to hear from anyone else who adjusted their status through marriage and was ewi and what their process was.

Thanks TexasDreamy; unfortunately, you are incorrect this is an appropriate forum to ask this question because although it centers around the Dreamers (which I am) and legislation concerning Dreamers it is also a forum to ask about general immigration situations. What this is not the forum for is to reply or post replies that are not pertinent to the topic nor address the question at hand.

I doubt anyone here has, or else they would of posted/asked about it. If you don't trust your lawyer, simply get a new one. Remember you're his/her boss, if you're not satisfied or don't think he is able to do the job, simply move along.

Now, going back to the topic, do you guys have children, a house, enrolled in school (is it a program very specific to your school?), military, sickness of any kind (for the USC), debt, part of a humanitarian group, any type of situation that can be detrimental to any USC if you depart the U.S.? Keep in mind that each of these issues have to be factual. they have to have lots of research behind them. For example (not a real statistic), if you have high blood pressure, Sodium will effect you greatly and the drinking water in (country of spouses origin) has a 82% higher Sodium concentration than the drinking water in the U.S. and at that rate my chances of suffering a stroke increase 44% and my chances of heart failure increase 37% (keep in mind that this is the USC writing). The point is, you have to expound greatly on each of the issues.

The hardship letter is the hardest part. There is a misconception out there that with the new provisional waiver it will be much easier. It is true, but only if you are approved for the provisional waiver. From what two lawyers have told me so far, it may be harder to get approval for the I-601A than the original I-601.

Another factor is the country you will be returning to. Some countries have higher approval rates than others. For example, mexico has a higher rate than greece.

Well we just took the first steps. Although I am sure the hardship letter is coming soon we are not there yet. I am more interested in the timeline of the paperwork. You know, what paperwork follows which and when you do it. I am sure the hardship letter will be hard to write so ill tackle that when we get there. Unfortunately, he and I are healthy individuals. And we do own a home, but everything is in his name.

I'm not trying to be a thread cop, it's just from past experience this forum gets very hysterical and superstitious towards anything immigration related and thus unable to be of any solid use to you. Furthermore, as the immigration related experiences of most people here are limited to seeing a CBP agent from a distance at the airport or the border, they're not likely to provide you with any practical advice. Remember: the vast majority of people here are young, unmarried, and illegal!

Yes and my past experience has been that people with nothing important or relevant to add to the topic will clog up threads with their responses. Here's a general rule: if you have nothing constructive to add then don't do it! People will respond with poor advice, but that's the risk you take in posting something. I can't control younger dreamers who want to f around on this forum. If I have a question I will ask and hope for the best in responses. I also don't care what your current status is now if you have a experience or knowledge of something and want to contribute you should. No one should be told they cannot post something on this forum unless they are a moderator and deem the thread inappropriate.
