Hey guys so I had opened a bank account with my itin , a few months before DACA was made official. Now that I had my ssn I decided it would be a good idea to update my bank account info. I went in straight to the manager since I knew this could be a bit difficult and I was probably going to have to explain why I now had a ssn. The bank is also kinda new, when I opened my account it was called M&I , but now is call BMO Harris. The manager basically told me that, that could not be done because my ssn was only for work and it was also just temporary. And if I could not renew my ssn there would no longer be a way to verify my identity. He said that " the only good thing about the Dream Act passing was that I now had an ID". I was so mad that this Hispanic man was so ill informed about what was happening to his community specially knowing that 90% of the people that go to that specific bank are Hispanic. I was just so frustrated that I was just like whatever thank you for the waste of time have a good day ill informed Sir.
I guess I can understand that the bank can do whatever they want its their bank , they can do what they want under their discretion right?!?!?
I just feel like the excuse he gave me was pure bullshit , has this happened to anyone else or is it just my bank???

Considering a social security number is permanent and not temporary, I question how this man even became a manager. My advice: switch banks.

I did just that with WellsFargo recently without any problems. I dont see why they would give u any issues...all i needed was my ID, Social and my debit card.

^^^^^^^^ This, that "manager" is clueless. He doesn't know what he's doing/talking about.

Thats the same thing I was thinking , even my dad was like wtf is this guy talking about , I mean we are already in their system why would they give us a new ssn if they can just keep renewing the one we already have. The thing that really bothers me the most was the fact that this bank caters to the Hispanic community and how oblivious they seem to be about what is happening to the same people that keep their business running.

Sorry for the rant guys.

Don't be sorry, that's what this forum is for. We all do it. Not to mention you can't have both an ITIN and a social. Now that you have you're social you're going to have to send a letter letting them to know and have them cancel your ITIN, so it's actually your ITIN that will no longer be valid.

you shouldve told him:

if you will not issue the xfer, then i'm gonna take my money and business to another bank. I really like the service here however this new issue has made me think otherwise.

usually they will tell you wait a sec lets see if we can work this out depends on them mostly.

but foremost change banks!!!!
