I heard that parallel parking is no longer required during testing. I think all dmv test in CA are open road test. I haven't heard of any on a closed course.

I can't say for sure what the instructor will have you do obviously, but this is what I did.

First, the instructor will do a pre-drive checklist of the car. He will check the driver window, windshield, rear view mirrors, lights, tires, seat belts. Make sure the car is in good working order. He will ask you to turn on the ignition, not the car, so just put the key in and move it forward a little bit until the dashboard lights up, then he will ask you turn on the left and right turn signals, then to step on the brake and he will tell you to honk on the horn. Then he'll ask you to show him the arm signals. Left, Right and Stop.

After that, he will ask you to point out the following items in the vehicle:
Parking Brake
Windshield Wiper Switch
Windshield Defroster
Emergency Flashers
Headlight switch

Make sure you know where these are located on the vehicle.

Make sure you can stop and accelerate fluently, that means don't step on the brake too hard or on the gas pedal too hard. Make sure you know the speed limits. At the intersections, make sure you yield to oncoming traffic and scan the entire area. When you are asked to change lanes, first turn on the turn signal, then check your mirror, then look over your shoulder, then change lanes.

When you are entering a different street that has an obstruction and you can't see the oncoming cars, first make a complete stop at the stop sign, then check for pedestrians, then slowly move forward until you can see the oncoming vehicles, then if it is safe, enter the street.

When asked to back up in reverse. Turn your body around around and look out through the rear windshield the entire time while you're backing up, while also looking back at your right side view mirror to make sure you don't hit the curb, don't just use your side mirrors or rear view mirror.

DO NOT HIT THE CURB while you are asked to park on the side of the road or while backing up or at any time during the test or you will automatically fail!

Hope this helps.
I think I love you! Thanks for posting this. Idk if I have it in me to drive, I think the anxiety over the test would probably kill me. I feel like I'm being a loser for not taking advantage of the opportunity, but honestly I'm terrified of driving! I'll stick to public trans for now haha.

You are brave to want to use public transportation... I get nervous too, but I had my share of public transportation in SoCA... For some reason, I always get sad when I use public transportation... Give driving a try when you feel ready! Good luck with everything!

I did my driver's today and I missed 3 only, same mistake.

I didnt check both sides of the intersection when i had a green light arrow; meaning just scan the area at all times when making any sort of turn.

Dont forget your directionals, and never step on the lines at intersections or stops. Dont make sudden jolting stops or accelerate too quickly.
Turn your body to the right and place your arm behind the passangers seat when backing up. Make complete stops and you should be fine.

She told me to drive some residential i kept my speed at 20ish and then across rail roads, always use caution. Then we went to a 35 mph street where we did various turns.

Good luck, she was very nice and I took my test at the westminster dmv.

You can miss up to 15!

It easy to pass, just don't make one of the critical errors or you fail automatically.
