I only have a debit with BOA. Had it for a long time now. No CC so far.
Probably not. I am sure it hurts your credit.

I too have a BOA debit card for almost two years now. I opened my account with an ITIN number so maybe that is why I haven't had any offers. Make sure to update your bank with your social security number when the time comes.

Start from the bottom up, get a secured limit card with the bank after a while they'll give you a cc then after a while ...you should be fine. You just have to build up your credit first.

And another thing, don't apply all over the place if you don't have ANY credit because you're just going to get denied and that doesn't look good either

start with a small credit line. I started with $500 from Bank of America was approved in a week because I did it online. And it is not true that is only for work. Banks are not giving you credit card before you dont have any history so its risky for them but start small and build your credit

I tried to apply for a new credit card through mail and it was denied. The credit card company called me to verify my ss# and they said it is incorrect.
I thought my new ss# was not in their system for some reason since it's new...
To make sure everything was ok with my ss#, I contacted social security office.
I was informed that that I cannot apply for a credit card since my ss# is only valid for work purpose.
Is this true? Is there difference between applying for just a credit card compared to getting a credit card through opening a bank account?
I applied for a credit card with my itin before before I for my ssn and I got denied then I applied again once I got my ssn and I got approved! So they answer is yes we can apply for credit cards! Idk what the problem was with yours. Maybe the info you entered was wrong or maybe you didn't qualify for the type of card you applied. Since I didn't have any credit history I only got approved for 500 but they'll upgrade it in 5 months if I'm good with payments.

Hi guys, I normally don't comment here too much but I think I might be able to explain why you guys are getting denied for credit cards, well, it happened to me. I already had a credit card through Bank of America that I was able to open before with my Itin number, they gave me $600 limit to start with and now I am at $3000! So anyways, after I got my social security I tried applying for a Macy's card and it got denied. I called Macy's and they said they were not able to verify my identity, they were not able to verify my social security number with the 3 companies that monitors your credit: equifax, transunion, and experian. I called those companies and they asked me to send them a copy of my valid driver's license or id along with my social security number. Well I did that and one company already stablished my identity and my credit score, another one is giving me a headache saying that I have to send it again, so I did on Monday, calling them today. And the third one, experian, there is no way to talk to them on the phone unless if you are already in their system, so I am sending them another letter this week. 2 down 1 to go. Bottom line is, u will not be able to get any credit card unless these 3 companies have your info. Also, certain jobs such as hospitals etc, ask thoses companies for your information to check you credit and also your identity. Good luck!

Just open a secured cc. I did just 3 months ago with my new ssn, and im already getting offers for higher limit cards. I also qualied for credit at various major stores, with small limits ($500-1000) but its a start.
