I submitted my tax return last night on efile. When I checked my email this morning, I got an email from efile saying that my state and federal tax returns got rejected. It told me to log back in, get an extension and then correct the mistakes. I went to check for the errors and this is what I got.

Your federal return was rejected because the taxpayer AGI or PIN you entered when you e-filed does not match IRS records.

Your return rejected due to an incorrect entry of your 2011 CA PIN number. According to the California FTB records, you did not file a 2011 California return.

To correct, click on Results and click Continue until you reach the "To E-file, You Must Identify Yourself to the IRS" screen. Click on "Enter your AGI from last year's tax return instead" at the bottom of the screen and enter zero for the CA AGI.

I am pretty sure that the AGI and PIN that I entered are correct.
I filed my tax return last year with my ITIN and I am filing with my SSN this year. Should I just follow the instructions and start fresh with my SSN? Oh and I did send a letter to the IRS to rescind my ITIN and transfer everything to my new SSN.

I need help

Did you file with your ITIN or SSN?

I think the PIN number is meant to coincide with your ITIN number. So maybe since you entered your social this time that's why it doesn't match. You will probably have to call them I know there is an option that asks if it's regarding your pin. Good luck! I'm having issues with IRS myself

You did notify IRS of the fact that you have a SSN and they should rescind your ITIN, right?

I had trouble with the state return as well. You may have to send it by mail if it still gets rejected. Does your state have a line asking if you filed with a different number last year? If the efile system you used allows you to change those values, I would try that,

call the IRS 1 (800) 829-0582 then press 2 for spanish (they are alot more helpful) then when asked for an extension enter 462 and wait its usually 2 mins to 30 mins depends what time try monday to friday from 10am to 5pm make sure you have your 2011 copies with you and tell the lady you tried efiling this years taxes but it got rejected because your pin or aig doesnt match and the lady will give you a new one

or you can also go on google type IRS new pin and you can get a new PIN online youll need your basic info name last name your itin (because thats how you filed 2011) (this wont affect you with 2012 taxes) birth date and the address you used in 2011 and itll give you a five digit PIN and just enter that.

ive been doing taxes for 3 years now any questions you have please let me know or send me a direct message, good luck.

you can file them right now with your itin number
and once you get your social you wait until you get your
refund (if youre getting one) and then AMEND your tax returns
from 2012 and years back the IRS should start accepting 2012
amends after March, years back you can send them anytime now.

what you can do first is get an estimate on one of your local tax offices
and check if you owe the federal or state money THIS YEAR, and if
youre getting a refund from the state and federal ill suggest to
just wait for your social so you dont have to do extra paper work or
in your case pay the tax preparer twice. otherwise if youre getting a
refund from state and federal you have all year to do your taxes.
