I might have the exact same story as the rest of the visitors of this site, barring a few details.

I was born in Paris close to 19 years ago. My family is one of those african immigrant families who decided to make the trip across the meditereanian back in the late seventies. My mom, who's from Mali, went there for college, and then had us ( my sister, yours truly, and my brother),

France is very discrimating when it comes to its immigrant population. If you're arab or african, then your chances of sucess are close to naught. This and other (american dream) reasons led to us departing the old country,

I was 12. Didn't know anything about visa time limits or all that other official stuff. Obviously, we overstayed our visa. We got in with the visa waiver program which I would later find did not provide for any extension options.

I assimilated rather quickly, I had too, not to big of a french population where we lived, I learned the sports, the culture, the nuances.

Now, I go to college hoping that a resolution of my status will come,

I want to be a lawyer, if that's not at all ironic,

The worst part is probably the constant lying, The questions, why don't you have job?, why don't you have a license.

I write plays as cathartis, it helps,

I tutor underprivileged kids,

I write for my school paper,

I don't know I hope this helps,

Even though we are of different nationalities, your story rings truth to mine as well.

I want ALIPAC and all those people out there to understand us. We are creations born out of ignorance--the result of iniquity of our countries and of the broken immigration system. We do not demand anything. We have proven ourselves to become American, to learn your language, and your laws, and now we wish to do something with this for our American society. Are we asking that much?

Welcome BoldasLove,
Your story, unfortunately, is way too familiar to most of us. Just know that you can always come here when you need support or advice.

I am in the same boat. Some of us here are very open about their situation. However, as I am sure you know in our situation one lie leads to another and in the end you just dont want to be in the spotlight by telling people.
