There mere suggestion that lethal force should be used to prevent crossings is absurd.

Lets just give police officers authorization to shoot anyone who looks like they might commit a crime while we are at it.

The guest worker program is absolutely essential in preventing illegal crossings in the future. Once the door is shut so to speak and the 11 million people have status of some sort, ICE is going to crack down on visa overstayers and sending a message that those who aren't supposed to be here won't be here. This was discussed at one of the congressional meetings. The other important part of that is to allow a way for businesses who need seasonal workers to get them so they don't have to cross over illegally. You can't have CIR without a reasonable guest worker program.

Anyone with a stick can slowly poke in front of them and discover mines without setting them off. Another solution is modifying a tractor to detonate mines (ie: http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/fl...rael-1950s.jpg)

You'd need constant supervision on the border to make a minefield useful. Your billion dollar minefield would be defeated with a coyote leading a few goats on a leash in front of him :P

Oh, and the lawsuits when a US citizen steps on a mine would drive the cost up like crazy.
Good luck trying to cross the desert in time by poking every inch of your way.

And good luck trying to persuade the border crossers to buy/rent your anti-mine tank.

When a mine blows up it can be detected and agents dispatched to the location to replace the blown mine with new one.

If a US citizen gets blown up, he/she shouldn't have been crossing illegally

It's as if they are essentially saying "don't treat us like we want to treat the ones who want to come after us on our footsteps".

It's a very selfish view of the world and it lacks the empathy that you are asking from others to give to your plight.

Never mind that most likely it's bad economics predicated on wrong Malthusian understanding of the world. In a market economy, jobs aren't finite. A job creates its own demand.

What separates the US economy from let's say the Guatemalan economy is that the US economy has a better set of institutions which in turn allows respect of property rights, makes contracts enforceable and allows entrepreneurship to thrive. The same Guatemalan who can't make it in Guatamela because of corruption, fear of getting robbed and job killing regulations can make a living in the US. Conversely, if the whole world could magically adopt and enforce US rules and regulations in their economy, it would thrive dramatically. Alas, that's impossible.

I think that the best arguments against illegal migration are cultural not economic.

But like I said, if you are against more illegal immigration -for the people after you, not yourself- at least don't be a jerk.
Thing is, I didn't ask to come here. I would've been perfectly happy back in the motherland. But here I am 24 years later, American as can be (except paper). If I was a USC I would strongly oppose illegal immigration.

Fact of the matter is that dreamers are more American than the guy who wants to come here from Mexico in a year. We've done everything the same as any american.

Your smart cutting edge efficient mentality would be perfect for the thriving North Korean economy and succesful government, you should consider migrating over there, they could use such open minded intelligent folks like yourself.

Seriously who cares about future flow or guest worker things. The most important thing I want and need is green cards for dreamers within a year or two. And travel permission for all other undocumented. If I don't get financial aid soon ill have to drop out of college

There's no CIR without an effective method to prevent the future flow of immigrants.. Or else it'll be like the failed 1986 amnesty..

Take some reading comprehension classes along with the economics classes.. I said it would be my last reply regards to this topic (topic being that we need a guest worker program) I'm simply admiring your innovative revolutionary thought process

Pretty sure comparing a failed 1986 amnesty to CIR is not off topic.

Am I not talking about why we need a guest worker program? Can you not read? O.o
