Quote:
House Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., signaled today that he will schedule a lengthier process for the Gang of Eight’s immigration reform proposal than the Senate intends provide.

“Since the Senate bill is so large and the issue so complex, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on this legislation soon to consider its merits and flaws,” Goodlatte said in a statement today. “One way to do this is for the House to examine these issues in a step-by-step process. The House Judiciary Committee continues to hold hearings on immigration and is receiving input from members from both sides of the aisle, as well as stakeholders and other interested parties, in order to reach consensus on many of the issues plaguing our immigration system. While many bills may be introduced, whatever is ultimately acted on in the House must go through regular order.”

Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Pat Leahy, D-Vt., has advocated for a very compressed schedule to consider the bill. Initially, he refused to schedule any hearings on the Gang of Eight proposal, but scheduled two under pressure from Republicans.

“A rush to legislate, without fully considering all views and input from all senators, would be fatal to the effort of earning the public’s confidence,” Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said after Leahy’s initial statement that he would skip the hearing process.
Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., wants a much more elaborate hearing process. “A sound committee process will take months not the two-week time frame Chairman Leahy has outlined — and will require extensive hearings to understand every major component of reform,” he said in a statement.
I love Leahy; he's trying to pass the bill through as fast as possible. But of course, bastards like Goodlatte are getting in the way. And what the hell is Rubio doing? He wants to drag the hearings out over months. If anything, he's more of an idiot than I thought.

It just proves they are scared of what is coming. Steve King says they do not have enough votes to stop it in the House and this is the only way they can block it.

If the bill passes the Senate with a significant majority, then the pressure will be on Boehner to do something.

This. Apparently they did not get the message last November.
