financing a bachelor's degree, going to college for the first time.

Hi!
many of you have obtained a undergraduate degree while others are working to pursue a graduate. I have applied for DACA and at this point am waiting. Since this opportunity opened , I feel like now is the time for me to go back to school (when I get approved). I have NO College education at all but I do have a HS Diploma. While in HS I didn’t really care about continuing my education that’s why I didn’t give it my best potential. Therefore I am not sure if I can apply for scholarships with average grades or how to apply for that matter. I also can’t seem to think of a way how to collect more that 80,000 dollars to fund my degree. I would love to be sometime type of home renovator while tastefully designing the inteior. The Degree would officially be a BS in Interior Design , or Interior Architecture for which I would have to relocate near a big city (with my daughter and non eligible DACA boyfriend). We live in upstate New York and also have sister near BOSTON, Massachusetts so i really only have two choices NYC or Boston, MA . How do I begin at a community college near home? or can i directly apply to a four year school? Can someone shed some light, maybe tell me how made your accomplishment possible. I know that it will not be easy but I AM SURE I CAN AND THAT I WILL achieve what my heart desires. All to give my family a better way of life.

If you're going to a community college you'll only need like $25,000 tops for 4 years and that is NOT hard to get.. You can have that saved up under 4 months if you're motivated enough

I'd say go to a community college first to get your basics out of the way then transfer to a 4 year university. If you choose this path you could ace all your community college classes and that will help you get scholarships/grants from whatever university you decide to transfer to. Nice to know you have an idea of what you want. Now try to have more of a 'concrete' plan. Of course some things could change but hopefully it's nothing to major. Best of luck.

Also, while going to community college you could even work full time since many CC's offer online courses.

$25k tops? It must be cheap as hell where you live. Here, I would need (even with the CC route) about $40k for the 4 years. And that amount is taking into account in-state tuition rate! It would be $60k for 4 years at out-of-state rate. A lot of us don't have the opportunity to live in a state that offers in-state to us. And here's the zinger: this is all tuition/fees only. It does not count the room and board costs if you are attending a college far away. Btw, I dont even live in an expensive area.

That's good! And just keep in mind you are in no hurry to finish school take the time you are able to because we all know that it's expensive to live here especially being undocumented and all.

According to the latest Senate bill's Dream Act. The Dreamer needs 2 years towards a Bachelor's degree right? So this would be a no-brainer in my opinion.

Definitely community college. Often they are even cheaper if you're in district as well as in state. They usually have a testing process if you don't have SAT and ACT scores (or whatever they use now days) and it will determine whether you have to take any prep classes before you're allowed in for-credit classes. It's a waste of money but it may help you to get your feet wet and get rid of the butterflies in your stomach.

Take 2 or 3 classes a semester and get some basic classes out of the way and you can afford it. In a year, you'll know better what classes to take, you'll be more confident, and can start thinking about a university or just your associates.

Community college, $3,000 a semester 3,000 x 8 = $24,000 plus books so you'll need approx 25.. I don't even buy books anymore, my first semester I was spending $600 or more for them then I got smarter finding deals for like $2 textbooks.. They're basically free now since I know where to look and how to haggle.

thanks you guys... its true according to the proposed Immigration Reform bill under the DREAMER category, we would have to attend college to get a degree for a minimal of 2 years.
