That just sounds like a stupid idea all together. You're a senior but you're going to drop out and get your GED in NYC? Why? Actually, I don't really care. People do things for the sake of doing them.

Since you have been granted deferred action, you no longer qualify as undocumented student, but as an immigrant. A 10 second google search yielded the following results:

http://www.cuny.edu/about/resources/...s/tuition.html

I would strongly recommend you do some research. Seems like you haven't thought this through at all.

How do I qualify for in-state tuition as a student with immigration status?
You qualify for in-state tuition if you have resided in New York State for at least one year AND one of the following:

You are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have a permanent resident application pending. (Note: You must have filed a Form I-485. Having a pending or approved I-130 or I-140 petition is not sufficient; or
You have asylum, withholding of removal, or refugee status; you have temporary protected status (TPS); the USCIS granted you deferred action status; you are a "late amnesty" applicant; you are a NACARA applicant; or, you are a Cuban or humanitarian parolee; or
You are in one of the following nonimmigrant statuses: A, E, G, H-1B, H-1C, H-4 (where the primary status holder is here in H-1B or H-1C status), I, K, L, N, O, R, S, T, U, or V.

****** doesn't that say that you qualify if the USCIS granted you deffered action?******

You will be fine once you have your ss#. I would suggest you apply to a CUNY college, and you will be able to get in-state tuition.

Requirements for Resident Classification: The State University of New York requires an individual to be domiciled in New York for one year prior to registration in order to be eligible for in-state tuition. Students who do not meet this requirement may be reclassified as residents for tuition purposes if they can prove they have established a new domicile in New York notwithstanding the twelve-month durational requirement. Each SUNY campus is responsible for determining an individual’s domicile. The domicile of unemancipated students is that of their parents, custodial parents, or legal guardians. Emancipation does not occur automatically when a student reaches the age of eighteen. A student must show proof of financial independence if claiming emancipation. In addition, students under age 22 must provide evidence of one year of independent living in order to be considered emancipated.
Immigrant aliens with permanent resident status (including refugees and asylees) and non-immigrants admitted in visa categories that permit establishment of U.S. residence (e.g., A, E, G, I, K, L or N) may apply for resident classification for tuition purposes on the same basis as U.S. citizens.

I got this from the collegeboard.com
don’t really know what the age requirement is for you to be an independent student. I don’t live in NYC or attend a NYC college but I did take a class at a community college in NY. to establish residency requirements I had to get a Certificate of Residence for my county. basically you have had to live in NY for about a year. show proof of that and that’s how you get a certificate which I then used to be eligible for instate tuition. I hope I was able to help some.
