Step 1: Meet Basic Prerequisites
All police departments require their police officers to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent education. While some departments hire graduates right out of high school, most require potential officers to be at least 21 years old. Thus, students who are hired after high school must work and train until they are 21 in order to become an officer. Other basic prerequisites for police officers include being a U.S. citizen and having a valid drivers license and clean record.

Why would you like to become a police officer? Just curious.

I know you're asking Monzon, but i myself would've loved to be a cop or a firefighter. But sadly that wasn't the case.

A police officer is an honorable and respectable job, why not?

If you are actually thinking of becoming a LEO - be it local, state or federal - do not, I repeat DO NOT study criminal justice. No one wants it, no one uses it on the job as you learn everything you actually need to know during your training.

In fact, being a CPA will make your chances 10 times higher than getting a degree in criminal justice, and a CPA degree is considered 1 of the 4 (others being JD, Masters or PhD in physical science discipline, and fluency in a foreign language - especially Arabic dialects, Chinese, Korean etc.) that could potentially make you eligible for employment at FBI. Getting a criminal Justice degree basically says "I needed to get a college degree before I could apply, so I chose the easiest one - now give me that damn badge and gun so I can start taking down the next Pablo Escobar"
