Here is the link to an article that analyzes the ramifications of the proposed RPI 'status' in the recent bill introduced in the senate. I'm hoping this concerns will be addressed during incoming debates and amendments to the bill.

Okay, I was going to read the whole thing until I read this

Quote:
In fact, the proposed Senate legislation locks undocumented immigrants into a 13-year wait for citizenship, during which time, they cannot get a green card through any other means.
this is wrong, first of all, its 10 years before being eligible to apply for a green card, even then, they wont be able to until the border is deemed secure and safe, which could take even longer than this, so a lot of experts have said, it could take as much as 20 years.

so far the article nothing more than what we have already talked about here

The legislation also needs an amendment to ensure that persons in RPI status are not locked into the status, but can adjust to green card through other pre-existing means such as immediate relatives or family-visa categories

we can only hope the final bill address this

overall, the article is decent but again, everything mentioned, we have already talked it even more in depth.

This is misunderstanding of the Draft Bill. For the 10 years of RPI, every one can apply for green card via employment/family petition, except that while it is pending they can't apply for the merit-based visa, which is for the RPIs to become permanent residents.

Hmm I think I read somewhere in the bill that it does locked people in as the article mentioned if you get RPI through that, you cant fix your status through other means
