I have a question for all u Dreamers. what SSN did u guys get . Im just wondering about the first 3 numbers .SO DONT POST ALL OF IT!!!.This show were they were issued For example 449-467 is Texas or 602-626 is CALI... so in a sense any one from cali should get a SSN starting with a # with or between the lines of 545-573 or 602-626. I found this in many websites that i found. a really good one is this onehttp://stevemorse.org/ssn/ssn.html it goes as far as to tell u when and were it was issued(not who) once its on the system. it works ive tried it w/friends and family. Long story short My SSN starts with 057 which means Its a New York # Im in cali so im like WTF?. Dont get me wrong I dont mind. Im glad to have one now but im Just curious, if this is normal with any of u?

The SSA started issuing random numbers in 2011 for security purposes.

Apparently, I am from Connecticut (047).

Don't feel any different. This isn't something that will affect you in any way. Just think of all the people that move all around the country permanently or for work.

Yeah before mid 2011 the first 3 digits was an area code, keep in mind that when social security first came out it there was no computers and there were no decent communication network before the internet. So it was all usually stashed away in paper archives. In 2011 they changed the issuing system so that the numbers are all random.

They also opened previously unused (or sparsely used) combinations. Like 7s which were only previously issued to railroad workers, and 8s where very few were ever issued (some older sources list number starting with 8 as doubtful). Hence why lots of DACA applicants are getting SSNs starting with an 8 (like yours truly) as that number has the most open spots.

Quote:
Here's a quick summary of the SSN randomization changes:
  • SSNs will no longer be based on geography (state and local area)
  • SSNs will be issued starting with the number 8 (it has never done this before)
  • SSA will include all possible SSNs with the number 7 in position 1, rather than reserving SSNs beginning with 7 for certain states and specific groups (i.e. nonresident aliens receiving SSNs through the SSAs Enumeration at Entry program)
With the new SSA changes, some things will not change. The SSA will not issue:
  • SSNs starting with the number 9
  • SSNs beginning with 666 or 000 in positions 1-3
  • SSNs with the number 00 in positions 4-5
  • SSNs with the number 0000 in positions 6-9

On June 25, 2011 is when they started issuing Social Security Numbers at random. Mine starts with 793, which was previously unassigned, since the highest used to be 772.
