How do you approach potential employers when your intention is getting only a part-time or seasonal job? I have a part-time job already that pays well ($20/hr), but once my semester is over in June, I would like to supplement that with another part-time job until school starts again in September.

What are your experiences with this? What did you write on your applications or cover letters? During interviews?

I feel that saying right away that you're only looking for something temporary will make employers dismiss you right away.

Thanks.

You could always try retail or temp agencies.

I'll have to research the temp agencies. Has anyone tried them?

Retail involves interviews too, right? What I was saying was that during interviews, you don't admit that you want to be there only a few months? xD Or, do you?

I still have on my job hunting training wheels, like other DACA'ers. Not much experience looking for jobs. ;_;

I have very little experience when it comes to job hunting but I did learn tons of things with the interviews I attended. If you do go retail don't tell them about only being there a few months....since people usually don't last that long. I guess it depends on the company. JCP hired some folks that were only working part time for school, high school students, and others that hold other part time jobs.

But in the interview no you don't have to reveal this. I did once and I'm guessing that was one reason why I did not get hired at that place.

Thank you so much, msaccountant! I will do just as you say.

One more question to you and everyone else:

If my plan is to start as soon as school ends, the second week of June, when would be a good time to start submitting applications? Should I start now, and put a start date in June? Or perhaps start 2-3 weeks before the end of the semester?

Thank you. I would appreciate any input on this.

P.S. I plan to apply everywhere, positions related to my major, and also retail.

You're welcome!

Start applying now do not wait till school ends. The reason I say this is many times businesses/companies/whoever is doing the hiring can take forever to respond. Yea put the start date in June.

Good luck
