When I applied for DACA I really thought I wouldn't get approved because of this absence but eventually I figured out that they didn't really care about what you did before 2007. It was confirmed when I got an RFE for my presence after 2007.

So for all those wondering how its possible for someone to leave and come back, I believe it depends on every individual case...
Damn! I was wondering when did I wrote this? Cos your situation is exactly like mine.
I too overstayed for 2 years to graduated high school here, then I went back to my country without any intention to come back here. I stayed there for almost 2 years, and my family all moved here so I have to come too. Fortunately, all of these happened before 2007. I also came back into the US legally. (Yes, it's possible.)
My case was approved, but it took 6 months. During the 6 month period, I was thinking I was done. Thankfully, whoever handled my case is kind enough to let me go.

My friend did his biometrics, and hasn't heard a response since.
Did you ever receive an appt. for your biometrics?

Dang after 2007 I went out five times, once each year for about a week, September of 2011 was the last time. Now I'm scared of an rfe :0 it looks like they getting more strict to people who have departed. If they send me a rfe, I have proof my grandma was sick, and two of them was because I went to get my Ife id card. But all my separations took about a week each. It was brief and innocent, n I never left school here, I also sent my transcripts of every year, so ima pray that the officer sees all that n have mercy on me.

I'm glad you got approved, haha yeah i do remember all those people saying, "5 months is not brief!"

And well in reality, it aint, people have gotten denied because of time they had went out. But im glad everything came out good for you, whoever took care of your case was nice.

Now im hoping i dont get an RFE. There's no reason i should get one, all my departures were for 1 week only and to visit my family, what would i prove if they send me an RFE?
