Hello everyone, obviously I am a new member and this is my first post. I wanted to start off in a big way. Over a month ago in April, after about a long six to seven months I was finally approved for Deferred Action. I was accepted to a far away college(still in the same state though) for the upcoming fall semester in August, and obviously if nothing is passed, the commute would be a very difficult process.

So I was hoping on having this NY Dream Act passed soon; I already filled out the FAFSA application recently just in case a miracle happens within the next couple of weeks. I do not want to continue living with my mother, and keep having delays on having the opportunity for freedom.

A lot of people think of the financial aid aspect and housing.....but one thing a lot of people forget whether they are naysayers or supporters, is that along with those...we would also qualify for WORK STUDY

That is one of the other benefits to having this bill passed.......Imagine having the privilege to be able to work at a job on campus without worrying about getting "layed off" compared to other jobs(unless you have your grades slip dramatically or become disrespectful to people)...

Today while browsing usual information on the whole Dreamer movement for the State Of New York......I found this:

http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/pas...w&r_by=6912093

^^^This is a petition from months ago that seemed to have stalled drastically with the last signuature all the way back in February....I do not think there is any deadline unlike the White House main website and its petitions so it is not too late for us...

I am asking everyone here as my first post to help support this movement and to sign the petition above. I apologize in advance if your not from New York, but I am sure you would support a fellow Dreamer any way like I witnessed a lot of you doing on here in the past year with the Deferred Action process.

Please do not give up hope if you are a New Yorker....I was too until I thought about finally trying to do something since.....these past couple of months I kept holding off on signing up for this website because I honestly believed it was a waste of time....

I want to be that one person to help reignite this petition and spread it....Please can you guys help me....

If I am allowed to put this in my signature I will do so also....

Do whatever you can to help reignite this petition.......

Whether it is posting comments on HUFFINGTONPOST......im not asking you to spam....but on whatever immigration related news, you can give your short story to see if people understand and are able to empathize along with showing the link so we can get as much as we can in a short time....

Remember on whatever other immigration forums or websites in general you are on......you can also put the link in your signature

some other things I can also think of is :

sending emails from a student email if your in college......

facebook/twitter

Anyway I guess the 2 signatures in 12 hours shows people are not interested anymore. One of the reasons I was hesitant about joining this site in the first place. Kind of silly how we talk so much about supporting each other as Dreamers and continuing to fight and then we say things like that.

Thx

Btw I showed the wrong link that was before the senate surprised everyone and approved it.

I'm surprised even now in the morning they STILL aren't talking about it on TV. The Bostom Bombings may be a reason

This doesn't allow for legalization though right? I don't like it when people call Dream Act any law that doesn't allow you to legalize. As far as I know, the original Dream Act allows you to obtain legal status after military service or completing a minimum time in a college or university.
