The 13-5 vote clears the bill for a Senate debate expected to begin early next month.

Committee approval came after the panel’s chairman sidestepped a showdown on the rights of gay spouses, heeding appeals from the White House and others who feared such a vote could lead to the bill’s demise in the Senate.

On a final day of drafting, the panel also agreed to a last-minute compromise covering an increase in the visa program for high-tech workers.

The landmark legislation creates new provisions to bring workers here legally and enforce against illegal immigration, as well as creating a path to citizenship for 11 million here illegally.

I was watching it lol I was like a sports fan chanting for my favorite team when they brought up the LGBT, as soon as the chairman wanted to withdraw I was like YESS!!! That would of killed the bill right then and there

The bill will be added to the Senate's legislative calendar, amendments will be made to it, and then be voted on. If the bill passes the Senate, it will be then be sent to the House where Boehner will most likely accept it and then a really shitty mess will begin.

I don't know what to think about the House's immigration bill. On one hand I am hoping that it dies or that it doesn't even exist so that they will be forced to adopt the Senate's version, and on the other that both chambers' gangs have been working closely that the House's version will be similar to the Senate's.

At this point, I certainly don't think the House will have its own version. Judging from how far back the Gang of 8 started deliberations and drafts of this current bill that has reached the Senate, its just improbable that the House will have a bill of its own ready. There is definitely over 80% likelihood that the House will take up the Senate bill when it passes. This would be great for us IMO. All eyes would be on the House and knowing Boehner, he will surely be under pressure to rally for the bill. I suspect Harry Reid will go very fast with this. There was an article few days ago that said he will aim for a June vote in the Senate. Looks like they want to go fast with this.
