Under the DREAM Act portion, we would be granted "provisional immigrant status."

Then after five years we could apply for permanent residency as long as we meet the 2 year educational requirement or four years of military enrollment.

My question is, will we be able to travel outside of the United States during our "provisional" period?

I would love to!!!

Yes. Everyone under that status would be able to travel abroad.

Let's not forget that those who serve the military can now be eligible for expedited naturalization so the whole 4 year thing of military service may not be a requirement anymore. I think it was the Blumenthal 12 amendment that changes the current law that prohibits those without legal status while serving the military to apply for naturalization...that would include those with RPI.

We would still be treated as third class citizens . I know we can't ask for much, but most of us have proven worthy not only of permanent residency but for citizenship. I guess they wanna make sure we don't vote soon and benefit the democrats.

This isnt the updated version.

The version that will hit the floor hasn't been published yet. Maybe next week when they start voting on it.

Dude. If the bill passes the way it is now, we dreamers only have to wait 5 years. Then we will be eligible for citizenship. That is awesome.

The way I read it was, five years to permanent resident, then whatever time it takes for citizenship.

‘(i) has been a registered provisional immigrant for at least 5 years;
Maybe I'm reading it wrong, and maybe the link (like someone said above) isn't the updated bill...my point with the 'third class citizens' is that we are still not given a real status.

basically, you wait 5 years after greencard for citizenship, but with provisional immigrant status, the 5 years for greencard, counted towards citizenship, so you apply for a greencard, then right away can apply for citizenship, is fast and is a good bill.

Or you can just not apply for it because feeling like a second class citizen would obviously shatter your faith in this country and just keep doing what you are.

Its really a personal choice on what to do.
