This proposal is unneeded politically. The DREAM Act portion of the bill seems to be the less controversial part of the bill.

This bill makes no economic sense. Neither do the calls by some forum members to restrict it to the 'STEM' fields. The STEM fields are over-subsidized as is. As others have said, not everyone is meant to go to college. Some people are more productive in fields where college education isn't needed. By making the DREAM Act applicable only to STEM major graduates you'll actually produce a distortion in the economy by providing an incentive for people to get a degree in say, Mathematics, when they would have been much more productive as paralegals or a chef.

Even the current DREAM Act is a political compromise. College or military? Really? Because you can't be productive without spending a few years getting a degree in gender's studies or shooting at some brown people overseas?

The only reason to support this amendment would be to win political support for the DREAM Act section. As noted above though most moderate Republicans are already in favor of the DREAM Act as is. If you want to win political support among Republicans you'd succeed better if you added a clause exempting those under the provisional status from Obamacare.

My issue is this. Assuming this amendment is added that means that those who haven't graduated from "an institution of higher learning" will not be able to have access to the bill's expedited five year path. What would happen when I do graduate? Would I still have to wait as long as my parents would? Yes, there are some who have had the opportunity to get a college education, but what about those who live in states that make them pay out of state tuition. What about dreamers living in Georgia? What about those who are still in High School? Also, college isn't for everyone. Some people don't get an education after high school and they do just fine. Some people join the armed forces after high school.

I just don't think it's fair. If you tell me, you can have access to the 5 year path as long as you can prove at the end that you have some sort of degree from an institution of higher learning, than fine. I'm ok with that, but to say that I will have to wait twice as long just because I'm not one of the few who have had an opportunity to go to college than that I have a problem with. How would you guys feel if they said that those who came here legally will have to wait 5 years and those who came illegally would have to wait 10 years. That wouldn't be fair either.

I graduated high school in 2011. I haven't been able to attend college yet because it is just too expensive. The local community college charges about a $1,ooo per class. My sister and I will be starting school soon though. A college education has always been in our plans. Things are finally starting to turn for us. Right now I just hope that there is a CIR, amendment or no amendment.

Seems fair to me as well. Either go to school or wait in line

This is just flat out idiotic. What about students going into college now? What about people who couldn't graduate from college due to financial reasons? I understand people might abuse the law but so many people were not able to get bachelors degree due to financial reasons. The whole point of the da is for young individuals who came to the us by the parents and putting degree on the line in exchange for da is just despicable. If this passes, it will limit DA applicants in less than a quarter of the daca volume. They have to make it so that any individual came to the us before the age of 16 and attended schools in us for at least 5 years must be eligible for da. And who is this mthrfukcer undocumented students wants to stiffen the da eligibility?

they should just leave it the way it is and stop making changes. It's perfect. I need to take 15 more classes to graduate with my associate's degree from my community college from business management I am considering changing it to criminal justice but at the rate im going its going to take me 3 semesters which is a year and a half unless I get a loan from the bank to pay for it all.
