If I already have a s.s number from previous immigration process, once I got to ss office to get my new card, can I just go to DMV right away or do I have to wait for card to arrive? I'm assuming they are going to give me the same ss number I was originally issued when I was a kid

Also, when taking the driving test, does your name have to be under the insurance you are using to take the driving test??

What state in this in? and to answer your second question - no, you can basically use anyone's car as long as you show proof of insurance, registration, and your permit.

I didn't need to wait for my new SS card. This was in NJ, but I assume it would be same in all states.

so nobody mentions the fact that once you're issued a Social Security # that that's your number forever ?

you got one as a kid, that's the number that you were assigned for life.
