I ask because my understanding is that to have a good credit history, not only must we have an SSN in our name from the start (no ITIN), but the SSN must be in use for years to be able to get a good score.
I have a credit card with bank of america for 4 years now (opened it with itin number but then transferred that history to my new ss#. I also have a store credit card for which I did the same thing.

What do you mean pay it off? The dealer would still have to find you financing right?
Today, I went to a dealership and I was not I would not be able to get a car because of my ssn (which says valid only with dhs authorization) which was a major bummer I don't know what to do to be able to get a car.

But why is it that you guys are showing your social? You can just write it down no need to show your actual card. And just give them your license, well at least thats how it works here in TX..

Exactly... i dont know what you guys are doing but DON'T show your SSN card or EAD card to the bank!!

ALL you need is a driver's license and just your SSN to get a loan anywhere pretty much... + decent income.

You guys have to walk in there like you're US Citizens! Do not undermine or belittle yourselfs just cause you have DACA. Leave your social security card and your work permit at home. You don't see US Citizens walking around with their SSC and showing it to creditors. Only places I have shown my SSC aas to my university and my bank (to change from ITIN to SSN).

A little update from my end. I just bought a used car. Put some down payment. The dealer sent me to the credit union he works with. I got approved for a loan with the lowest rate for the year car I was purchasing. My credit score which they got from Experian was pretty good. Anyway, they asked for some paystubs and that was it. Moral of the story. It really helps if you finance through the dealer. My dealership is small so I had to actually go to a credit union. But he knows the credit union and works with them on a regular basis so that helps a lot.

the dealer let me drive off in the car and now they keep asking me for more information (pay stubs, copy of social, proof of residency, etc) until they straight out told me they bank is worried that my Employment authorization will expire in 18 months. (5 year loan I can see why they be worried) Any one have any suggestion on what to do? Is there any way to prove my work authorization is renewable every 2 years?

Easy... try another bank and don't tell them you have an EAD. You can get a loan from a credit union to pay for the car you're getting at the dealer. All they want is the money.

Straight up ask that you need a car loan at the lowest rate they can provide based on your credit and that's it. Let them ask the questions. You should provide a pay stub, your SSN (just verbally), your driver's license, proof of residence. That should be it.

Nobody should be asking your legal status. I would be pretty pissed if i was a citizen and they asked me to prove i was an American. Walk out and leave. DON'T BE AFRAID to show confidence now that you have the paperwork necessary to pretty much do anything on this country.
