I'm over it. I used to be a very big Metallica fan back in the 80's when radio stations didn't play them. Of course, back then they weren't a bunch of old geezers and Master of Puppets and And Justice for All were just released. You also had bands like Anthrax which I loved and Megadeth and Guns and Roses.

Guns and Roses were more mainstream but once Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Pepers, and Nine Inch Nails came out, metal was of no interest to me anymore. By then Metallica had completely sold out and were just in cruise control.

For you youngins, you have to understand how fast music changed when the "Alternative" movement kicked in. All the hair bands - Warrant, Poison, slaughter, etc. went away overnight. And yes, I know some of those guys are still around, but aside from a novelty act at a night club, they went away.

Anyway, that was my generation's music contribution. Grunge killed off the hair bands and as is the case, they started all sounding the same too and so the alternative to the alternative music was the feaux metal Korn knockoffs which were nothing more than angry white guys yelling into the microphone. If you turned on the radio in the late 90's it was either the godawful popular rock like Creed and Limp Bizcuit; angry white guy yelling bands like Powerman 5000 and Slipknot; Dance music was drugged out rave music and hiphop was the whole Biggy Vs. 2Pac saga- Both lost.

The point of this rant? It's all been done. Just listen to what you like listening to and don't limit yourself. My personal favorites are very rare 80's club songs and bands like Depeche Mode and the Cure. Ironically, I discovered them in the 90's because in the 80's I was too busy listening to metal and didn't think it was cool to listen to "sissy music". More into the indie rock bands now like Passion Pitt, Phantogram, Phoenix, and the like. I'm sure that will change.

I love 80s music too! Do you by any chance like The Horrors? They are a new band but they sound a lot like Joy division or The Cure. Eh, but you cant deny that Metallica albums up to "..and justice for all" where really great albums

I love this post, and the only reason is because you mentioned Nine Inch Nails. You also mentioned "Grunge" which I love but you didn't mention my favorite bands: Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains.

Btw, Depeche Mode is touring this year I think....
